I'm guessing this guy didn't notice the checkered flag was out, and ran up awful quick on a car that did slow past the s/f line. The video is about 4 mins. longer than it has to be, and from what I've heard, the driver and course worker are fine, although the driver is still in critical condition.

I'm not real impressed with the safety crews response to the incident. Though I do like their choice of broom.
In reply to racerfink:
I had a close call where I was racing for position in a drag race to the S/F and the leaders who were not so close just backed it down to cool down speed as we came hauling the mail side-by-side as fast we could go in 4/5/6 position right up their asses.
It was not all that dramatic - but it was unexpected and I had to fly between two cars under checker. I could see how it might be a bit more dicey if you were going 190.
Keeping pace was discussed "sternly" from control during the driver's meeting the following morning.

That corner worker who was standing there did not get up (red pants, low left corner). I don't think he was spared the contact.

Yeah, speaking as someone who does pre-hospital patient care, that response was not only slow, but it sucked.
Immediate spinal immobilization anyone?

Yeah, this was really lousy. You would think that in a series that involves this much $$$ they would insist on experienced Safety workers; guess not.
Also, take note of how flat spotted his tires were.
That race was in Japan, who has a far different attitude about safety, especially at racing, than the US.

We take safety pretty seriously here in Canada, too.
Note to self: Bring your own emergency response crews when racing in Japan.

They're totally on the ball with that sheet though...
I don't recall seeing anyone with an extinguisher.
There's a pretty big effort to get the parts off the track too. Meanwhile, the medical staff seem to be pretty easy going.
That's what happens when you crash in a society where no decisions can be made without a committee.

The guy with the fire extinguisher got hit by the car. The extinguisher is laying out there in the grass...
