Would Wally mind carrying this package home tonight?
Our 2010 Santa Fe is included in the recall. This will be the second recall that I know of. Honestly, in 36k miles the car has had zero problems that cannot be attributed to road hazards (nail in the tire, windshield crack) or a child (the lipstick marks on the headliner, paint scratches from a HotWheels truck). It is quiet, rides great, and knocks out 23 mpg on long trips at 75 mph with two bikes strapped to the back. We've had zero issues with our dealer (Rick Case Hyundai of Gwinnett). The interior has held up beautifully. No rattles, no squeaks. Sure it doesn't ride like an M-Class Mercedes, but then again I also don't expect it to for 1/3 the price.
We have ALL maintenance done by the dealer, not because I'm lazy or rich, but because it is my wife's daily driver and she can't wait for me to get around to doing an oil change. She shows up at the dealer with the kids, they shuttle her to the mall next door, and then call her when it is done so they can pick her back up. Oh, and we get a free car wash voucher each time (they don't wash the car, I miss that about our VW dealer).
I guess we are just lucky.

Lucky bastard
6+ years and 85k hard driven miles on a Kia later, and I'm impressed. Our van has served us faithfully and has never been on a flatbed due to mechanical issues (wife ran it out of gas once...long story). Most automakers go through a period where quality slips some. If that's happening to Hyundai/Kia now, I'm interested to see how they respond to it.
111k as of today on the 2011 Elantra, so far oil changes, one set of plugs, a cabin filter and a K&N air filter.
No sqeaks or rattles.

G13B > all. That is all that needs to be said.

I do have to admit, the wife's Hyundai has some rattles (no squeaks though). Damn thing only has ~219k miles on it and was manufactured in Feb 2000 and we paid $2k for it 6 years ago.
What a complete pile of E36 M3.
First Hyundai was a 2000 Elantra. Only issue we had was the cruise control switch at the brake pedal wouldn't keep adjustment so often didn't work. No issue around town. Wife drove it a couple years then passed it down to daughter who tried to kill it, she didn't like it. One time I changed oil in it and the oil came out in chunks, think about 10,000 miles on the oil. Car went over 100,000 miles then traded in for a Tiburon GT. Daughter trashed that car also but still went about 150,000 then traded in for a Tucson. This one she takes care of since it hauls her son around. SWMBO now drives a 2010 Sonata V6 we bought new. Only issue we've had was the chrome plating on the inside drivers door handle started peeling off, replace under warranty. All Hyundai's. We've had good luck with them. Even changed my Korean wife's opinion of Korean made products. Before she wouldn't look at a Korean made car, now my Korean wife drives a Korean car. Seems that they are going through the grow to fast pains. At least they are stepping up, admitting their faults and working on fixing them, even if the fault is remote from occurring. More than can be said of other large manufacturers.
"to fix a potentially faulty brake light switch" Doesn't sound like a really huge issue, more of a supplier problem. (American supplier, maybe?)
My wife is on her second Sedona now, and has loved them both. We had no major issues at all with the first one. The worst thing that ever happened to it was a failed electric clutch on the AC compressor.

In the case of my wife's car, the brake light switch lived up to its potential and did in fact fail, which resulted in the failure of the car to start, since the "smart key" requires that you depress the brake pedal (with a properly working switch) in order to start the car. So that leaves wife and kids stranded (again) which is kind of a big deal.
Sounds like we got a lemon, but WHAT a lemon. One thing after another.
I guess it figures. The only other car my wife kept any length of time was an Audi A6 2.7T that was as reliable as a Swiss watch for over 100k miles.
Cliff Notes:
Audi reliable
Hyundai un-reliable
I'd buy another Audi, but not another Hyundai.
YMMV.
Every car marque/model ever made has had bad examples but most of the time the good out weighs the bad, except of course the Chevy Vega which had no good (ba da bing!). I have had good luck withHyundai/Kia but I am glad the OP let us know about his bad experience. I appreciate hearing both sides.

Now, that in a 7 and I'd be all giddy.

QFT on the YMMV part. Some people get lucky with Audi's, I guess. But seeing what I see every day, I wouldn't touch an Audi even if it came with a busty red head inside.

That would be a mistake seeing as the Audi will probably leave you on the side of the road somewhere with time to kill.

Did someone say busty redhead??????

Funny, I was just thinking the other day that the new Accord looks suspiciously JUST LIKE a Hyundai Genesis from any rear angles.
Everyone cribs everyone's styling these days.
My parents' 2011 Sonata is sitting outside the window I'm next too (they left it here while out of the country).....I don't think it much looks like any other cars I can think of, nor does my neighbor's new Elantra. I think they actually look better than most other cars in their segments.
The Sonata is a nice driver (once the crappy stock Kumhos were replaced with some Michelins) and my parents have 35k on it with nary a problem. I drove it home from the airport last night and, while not terribly exciting, is pretty quiet, solid, and the interior quality is pretty good IMO. The base 4cyl has pretty good power for a 4cyl n/a and the gets up and goes fine. The auto tranny is mediocre, whether in drive or the shiftable mode, however.
IDK, I don't get excited about most of Hyundai's line, but I don't get exicted about most of Chevy, Ford, Toyota, or Honda's lines either....

my brake light switch on the WRX has failed twice, and the same switch failed once in my old Maxima (IIRC). Oddly, the switch is badged as a NISSAN part number, as is the one in our 4Runner. Most switches are not made by the actual car manufacturer.
I've never driven a Hyundai, but I will say they're berkeleying slaying it with design. The Genesis specifically, but the Sonata and Elantra are berkeleying great looking sedans, IMO. And I know it's a love/hate thing, but aside frpm the mouth, I really dig the looks of the Veloster (runs & hides.) Saw a baboons-ass red genesis on the road the other day. JIMP!!!
As a self-professed honduhtard, I really don't have anything nice to say about the styling on the Civic or Accord. I DO really dig the Fit (in sport trim,) Crz, and the Odyssey.

I forgot, here we think Yugos are the epitome of awesomeness, but if an inexpensive late-model car has a bad brake light switch, it's a POS.....

Joe, you are in big trouble. You have the age of a woman, which my 53 year old wife says is a no no.
