If it helps, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't sell brake light switches on these overpriced Hondas.

I have no grudge against Hyundai as a company. They do many things right, just like any car company most of the product that comes off the line is fine, an occasional car has more than its fair share of issues. Their current line up appear pretty good and fairly well styled. My only surprise is I'm amazed they grew to be as successful as they are considering some of the past offering that have come out. I've got a good friend who has an 03/04/05ish Elantra, I'm honestly stunned anyone would have parted with hard earned $$'s to buy a car like that new. It wasn't just one of the ugliest cars of the era, but the ergonomics and driving, eerr I hesitate to call them ‘dynamics’ are just dire. It really is a horrible horrible horrible vehicle to drive. That said it's been as reliable as the sun rise for a non-car guy who views a car as a means of transporting people from point A to B with no other interest or purpose. The single biggest issue they've had is that I needed to replace the battery hold down for them, and that wasn’t a quality issue, it was only because the ham fisted ape who replaced the battery for them (some crappy tire/battery/muffler place) stripped the threads and left a stripped, too short a bolt in there and didn’t' even tighten down the -ve clamp so they were having issues starting. Reliable yes, interesting, pleasant or fun no no no. But, as I said the new cars do look good and I love the new coupe thing whatever it's called.

i test drove the velostar 6 speed turbo a few months ago. seemed like the motor mounts were weak, and the blue lights on the dash annoyed me. my brothers 11 sonata, on the other hand.....

ive driven that car to PA a couple of time, western tenn once, and around the backroads here. hell of a lot nicer and more fun ride than my old camry.....

the only bashings other than what i mentioned already was that the paint are thin, the plastics feel a little cheap, and polarized sunglasses make the windows look splotchy.

i thnk this same can be said for 80% of new cars, though....

I had a bad experience with a Accent GT. To be fair to the little car it was only $9800 brandy new in 2005 and it was the cheapest car in their offering. I owned it for 36K miles. In that time it ate 2 Manual Transmisions, had some minor brake problems, and the interior plastics literally would get damp with oil being released from them. The interior of the car never smelled right and the interior started rattling and squeking nearly immediatly. One thing I've noticed Is in all of hyundai's cars no mater what the price point the steering wheel feels Super cheap.

That said my MIL just bought a 2013 Elantra GT. I like the Blue leather seats and the overall feel of the car is nice. Rear seat space is Very Cramped with no headroom (It has the giant sunroof). Overall however for a 22K car it's quite nice. That said the steering still felt insanely cheap.

I loved my 02 Sedan. I always thought the hatchbacks were ugly as sin.

Once you dropped the terrible springs/struts for H&R's and KYB's, put on the $50 new 19mm Tib sway bar and real tires and wheels, they handle and drive really well. Enough to take the 2009 STS Indy region trophy for the year. For a quality DD, that car was perfect as it never needed anything other than maintenance items (belts, plugs, fluid changes). It made many trips to FL, NJ, St Louis, etc. 150k miles and the only reason I ditched it was because cancer had gripped the core support (which holds the radiator in).

Just for the record, I want to be clear that I'm not a Hyundai hater. My wife and I liked the car enough to buy it new over all competitors in its class. As noted elsewhere, the styling, performance, and price are all very attractive. The harsh reality of breakdown after breakdown, on a new, well-cared-for car kinda beat any love we could have for it right out of us.
