Jonny Smith on the Late Brake Show did a review of the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car.  It's supposed to have a range of 300 miles, and to my eyes is a pretty attractive car.  As he says, it's kind of reminiscent of a 1980s Lancia Integrale.

I've liked the shape. This was the first I've viewed that gave specs and they look very intriguing.

exactly what I thought when I saw the pic, before I even read the text. At least the rear end. And I actually owned a Delta back in the 90s (in Italy).

I have to say I'm impressed at how far Hyundai has come in the relatively short time they've been building cars.

I was pretty excited when I saw this. The specs sound good, and I think it looks fantastic.

Unfortunately, it's just too small for me. My loss, I think.

I think some people will be surprised by the size of this vehicle. If initial dimensions are accurate, it's essentially like a lowered CR-V or Rav 4. And Hyundai said when it was unveiled that it's wheelbase is actually longer than that of their 3 Row Pallisade CUV. Being a ground-up EV platform, with that kind of wheelbase, there's a ton of potential for massive interior space. I'm looking forward to getting to crawl around one eventually

In reply to STM317 :

That would be awesome. My usage is kinda funny in that the back seat just needs to be big enough for a 35lb dog, but the cargo area needs to be big enough for the belongings of two humans and a 35lb dog...

Anyhow, just my funny usage. I'd be stoked if it turned out to have a big cargo area.

EDIT: Er, yeah. After watching that video, it's clearly bigger than I thought it was. I think I assumed size based on thinking the wheels were smaller, and the tiny overhangs. The Integrale thing got me, too. I'm still a little concerned that it's doing the xUV thing where the cargo area isn't as *long* as I'd like it to be, but I have new hope...

Early Euro reviews are just hitting the web. Seems like a really strong effort to me

I think it looks fantastic, they took some risks but it's a very coherent design statement.

Personally I wish it were a little smaller - I'd love something nearer to "hatch" dimensions than mid-sized SUV, but this will sell better.

I think the size is bigger than it might appear. Certainly, the interior dimensions seem big.

Mentioned in the video, have you seen the Hyundai Pony EV rendition?

What if the mobility device in the case is a little electric pony? Like a ride on carousel pony with electric power that folds down and fits in the box. Oh the glory of a 6'2" 300lb 50 year old man with a white mohawk riding his Hyundai PONY pony through the park has me all aflutter.

Hyundai PONY EV

That, with the Stinger drivetrain? Dude... I'd so be in serious marital trouble.

Okay, to clarify my statement I should have said relatively short time in the US market, which has been since 1986.  Those first cars were pretty awful, and it wasn't until probably the late 1990s that Hyundai really started to build cars that were worth considering.

Well they had the good sense to enter the US market at the same time as the Yugo, so technically they weren't THE worst vehicle for sale.
