I was unable to read the vin plate so I removed it and soaked it in lemon juice for a day to get the rust off. I was able to confirm that the car is sitting on the original pan and that the car is a standard. I also found that the car was originally painted a dark blue. According to the split window beetle register this car is the 27th know standard zwitter in the world.

On Saturday my dad and I went back to the yard to get some more parts for the car. I got a complete 36hp engine, a transaxle case, tail lights, and a perfect 36hp engine case to start my engine build with.

On Sunday I went to the car show. There was a lot of interest in the car and I got some good ideas for what I want to do with it while looking at other cars. I also got some good ideas for the engine talking to people who have built 36hp engines before. I won first place in my class.

Today I finished the rebuild of my 010 distributor. I pulled it from my 356 short block and I plan on using it on the 36hp I’m building. The 010 was a cast iron distributor made my bosch from the mid 50’s to early 60’s when they switched to aluminum. It is referred to as the original performance mod.

Also congrats on the car show win, sounds like you have quite the rare car there, definitely something to hold on to. What kind of plans do you have for it?

Get it running and drive it like that. It looks awesomely gritty... like something Mad Max would drive through the streets of post-apocalyptic San Francisco.

To restore the distributor I followed the restoration guide by Glenn Ring.

That is rad, my sister used to be way into the old volks community and the split windows are a rare breed. Cool car.

The show was for aircooled and watercooled cars. It took place at York VW.

Sorry I missed your reply, ratghia. I've been up to my elbows in a new project of my own.

Everything sounds extremely cool! I still don't understand why there's such a divide between the aircooled & watercooled guys. IMO, stuff like that is what's keeping us VW/Audi guys from having a national club like the BMW/Porsche guys do.

At this show there were awards given by every club that came. If it was an aircooled or watercooled club you still gave an award to one watercooled and aircooled car. The point is to get every one to realize that at the end of the day we are all on the same team. This was also the first year that both types were mixed together and not parked on separate halves of the parking lot.

I'm glad to hear that parking was finally "desegregated". Maybe we VW guys are finally making some progress!

EDIT: I neglected to complement you on that dizzy rebuild. Man, that was slick! Are there "in progress" pics anywhere?

Wow, that thing is going to look awesome, is it going to be the factory dark blue? I don't know if I've seen that before. I love that grey one.

Nice Rack btw! Please tell me you're redoing the wood and keeping it on.

Oh and I think it was in Classic Motorsports that there was an add or a small article on faux fuches that run for a lot less than originals. The ones in that rendering look huge.

Congrats great find. A word of caution about the 356 crank. Porsche had a nasty little habit of altering their parts just enough so that you could not use them in a VW. or vise versa. I ran into that with an early 60'S 356B that had suffered some hyd. lock.

Any more pictures of that green Super beetle? I still have devious thoughts about one of those—and that one looks right.

Oh, and Richey racing was the shop that had the Faux Fuchs. Also, Rota makes a line of Faux Fuchs called "Linea Corsa"
