My wife, best wife ever, got this (http://www.gothamdreamcars.com/dream-car-sprint) on a groupon as a fathers day gift.

For $99 you got to drive 3 "fast" laps on a short autox course in a Ferrari or Lamborghini Gallardo. I was all for driving the Lambo. My mind was changed quickly, but the sound of the Ferrari at full throttle. The Lamborghini sounded like someone had the bulls bollocks in a vise. Not so awesome.

Long story short, that is the fastest car, I've ever driven. My hands were shaking and heart pounding for hours after getting out of the car. The instructor was a cool guy, who drifted for fun and spotted for a formula D. We chatted for a bit. I talked about some of the cars i had worked on and he talked about his LS2 powered 240sx. He resulted to taunting me when I lifted in areas and yelled "Hammer it" a few times.

And now I'm ruined. I need to pick up a 2nd job or become a D-Bag real estate agent or something.... I need something that goes that fast and is that connected. No motorcycles, SWMBO forbids it. Wanna buy a kid?

You HAD to post that link, didn't you? That looks like it would be worth the trip down to Mass at the end of September

An LSx Miata would do the trick for peanuts (comparatively).

Won't sound nearly the same, though.

How cheap are NSXes these days? Never mind, those sound like some kid's old Lumina with a bad muffler.

I would love to see something like this raced against the latest slew of supercars. GRM, are you listening?

Nice, but timbre's off a bit.

50mm independent throttles and destroke it to about 3 liters and it'd sound a lot better. The problem there though is that a component of a good exhaust sound is the compression ratio, and it's hard to get a highly oversquare 2-valve engine up to the 13-14:1 range.

I had a similar conversion when I first had the chance to autocross a Ferrari. Regardless of how you feel about Ferrari's primary clientele, the cars are engineered to be epic tools for the serious driver.

Light car + GM LS engine conversion = adrenaline rush. A mildly built LS engine with turbo should pump out more ponies than you'll ever need. Something to think about. And is there a possibility of being a real estate agent that's not a d-bag?

Wait a minute. We're possibly looking at this the wrong way.

How often are the events? How much money will you have in even entering and maintaining a cheap non-awesome autocross car to a decent level of prep for $250 per event?

If it's normally $50 to autocross your own car, the way I see it, that's $200 per event to rent an awesome car. Depending on how often it is, that's even cheaper than insuring another car, let alone purchasing, storing, and maintaining one...

Very true, but you don't get the satisfaction of owning, tweaking, and bragging about that awesome car you have. You also won't get much time to get used to the car and you lap times will suffer (if you care about that).

That's funny. I went helicopter snowboarding in the Canadian Rockies several times and it ruined me on the sport. I couldn't afford to keep going up there for my jollies (I live in Oakland, CA), yet nothing that the Sierras offer could come near the pleasure of waist-deep, dry, untracked powder.

I feel your pain

I went fishing at a fly in lake.

For a full week; I got used to catching huge fish damn near every cast.

When I got home I couldn't fish at home anymore. I did for awhile, but. I got bored at home having to actually work to catch fish.

Wait a sec, these guys also run along side the local autocrossers, as Nassau col. Was that where you did this?

Funny thing, We pretty often get people who are disappointed at the supercars coming over and ask about where to rent the cars for the autocross...

In reply to thestig99:

I'm glad you had a good time.

I did the same thing in NYC last year with the same company, I chose the f450.

I researched the launch control and traction control before going I was so excited.

The convo when I got in the car was something to the extent of "squeal the tires and your ride is over." The traction control was in rain mode and the button removed. I should have left the box in auto, it was too fast for me to react

I quickly found the traction/stability control limits very low, the car understeered terribly and the throttle would cut out with any hint of a slide. The entire 3 laps the co-driver was yelling at me to slow down.

My father drove the lambo and was overwhelmed, I think because it was a fast and he had never autocrossed before. for me it was over too fast.

I too need a f-car.

I ran it in Baltimore. The guy pointed out braking cones at the end of the straight, which I took for braking points. Meaning, full throttle to the cones, then full brakes at the cones and not an inch before. It worked, but the instructor was less than thrilled. Apparently I was the first to "race" the car. No squeals though, so he had to sit there and hang on for dear life.

My Ferrari autocross ride-along instructor was a club racer and encouraged me to hammer it. Later I also autocrossed an Audi R8, and the 'instructor' was young drifter who was very nervous being in the passenger seat (instructing for the first time?). I drove hard and slid the car around a lot over his objections.
