I agree, but they were so financially impaired a bankruptcy was inevitable. GM was double-whammied by old boy Detroit then an agenda-motivated government. Ford is the best of Detroit and will be for a long time.

You're exactly right Moparman. And Ford is putting distance between itself and GM every day. In fact, I'm planning to buy a Ford in the not too distant future, albeit one that won't help them any. My wife loves trucks and my next project is going to be an early '50's hot rod version.

I guess one could fish for flounders from a canoe....maybe that's what he was going for? (Did I just end a sentence with a preposition? Here come the grammar police!)
Not sure if some of the Ford fans recall or not but they had huge problems something like 2 or 3 years prior to the blow out. As such they cut to the bone and regrouped before it was fashionable.
This saved Ford saved Ford by putting them in a far better position to make it through the collapse.
Just an aside to alFadriver: I usually find myself at odds with some(actually a lot) of your opinions, but you sure nailed this one! Just giving credit when credit is due. Who thought of this first, alfadriver or Soros?

That's what I thought.
Was it good planning, bad planning, or luck that they (were forced to) start selling things off before the crash?
My bet is the last two. Nonetheless, whatever it was, they look like geniuses now.
