This reminds me of a stament I made after one Rim of The World Rally "Keith Wheeler's MGB is faster than the factory Hyundai" because it was. The back story on this is the aforementioned Mr. Wheeler took his stock MGB autocross car put a roll cage in it and entered the roughest rally in America. They even had to change a head gasket at one of the services halts but Kieth made it though to the end. Keith beat a lot of cars just by getting to the end.
The last thing I would worry about is the motor; source a limited slip diff and spend the dough beefing things up. When we organized Seed 9 Rally our largest entry was something like 21 cars but usually 13-16 cars and there were always at least two who failed to finish. There were usually couple more that were nursing the cars to the end.
I'm a huge advocate of underpowered wonders; they tend not to break things and they also tend to make you a better driver.
Congrats on getting the race car. As for a co-driver get on Special Stage, if you already have not, I sure you find a fellow lunatic to join in on the fun.

I forgot Jen had this car when I did the "history" post for Jeff.
Speaking of history - do you still have Steve Walkington's old Scirocco rally car? I think you were the fellow who had it.

Hey, no I sold it to a buddy of mine not sure where it ended up from there. I am currently dreaming of getting back to rallying in something rwd if I can find a car

This isn't Steve's but its sitting in my garage (belongs to a friend):
Prepping it for rally-x.
There used to be some old rwd cars around, but most seem to have disappeared.

You should really finish that garage's roof...
Nice buy. I look forward to reading more.
I love nothing more than under-powered rally. Besides Group B, of course.

+1 For digging into the rule book to understand what mods you are allowed and what vehicles may be on the same line in the book. There is something to be said for rocking the box stock slow car while you learn.

1 point for oldsaw. You made me smile.
Slow racecar is still better than no racecar.
Our Lemons car is a 1.6 BP powered FC RX-7. Heavy but great chassis. We've actually won races in it.
My old 1980 VW Rabbit race car with a 1.6 8V I'm pretty sure was slower than your new race car :)
My son thought it was cool though. It had stickers and was looud.
If I were closer I'd totally ride shotgun in that thing!
Awesome car!

Dave, are you going to rally this year? Have you heard anything about the 'insurance problem fix' for ON that was battered about? For me it's going to be all track stuff; some GT races and vintage. I think I've got budget for 6 races.

Planning on doing rally-X. The Scirocco belongs to a friend. He is in the same boat as you - the insurance is too much $$$$'s.
MLRC is planning at least one Rally Sprint entirely on closed roads and/or private property. No insurance needed. Anthony may get the car out for one of those. It is a log booked car.
I haven't heard squat about the proposed "insurance solution". I hope it is real and not vapourware.
