Started pulling things off to do the CCV. I removed the DISA valve and the thing is shot. No tension at all on the flapper.

Also, how does one remove those plastic expanding clips without breaking them? I broke at least one off the intake housing and then when I went to remove the fan and fan shroud I broke off the one connecting the shroud to the radiator. I have a tool to remove clips and it didn't work and prying at them with a screwdriver didn't work either. I think they are just old and would have busted anyway, but who knows. It's so berkeleying annoying that they use those things anyway.

Considering how easy it is to remove the alternator I'm kind of annoyed that I had the dealer replace the alternator when the car broke down a few months ago. I got it removed and decided to call it a night before swapping the oil filter housing gasket. I've got to get that new DISA valve anyway before I put the thing back together.

Also, when I pulled the MAF off the car that plastic crosshair thing busted off. The damned thing was so brittle I barely pushed on it by accident and it fell off. I'm getting that it doesn't really do much anyway. I'm not buying a new MAF over it if the thing runs fine.

I'm a little worried that the oil that leaked out of the oil filter housing will cause an issue. I tried to get it drained out by opening up the filter cap, but there was still quite a bit left when I pulled it off. BTW, if you have to do the CCV on the car, removing the oil filter housing just makes it a ton easier to remove and replace the CCV. I just need to do some cleanup on all the oil that came out.

Unfortunately the CCV seemed to be okay, so this was more of an upgrade to the overall system to the insulated components, but of course I did discover the DISA valve was broken which obviously is a good thing to replace before it really breaks.

All done. Seems to work. Now have the CCV system upgraded, new oil filter housing gasket and new DISA valve.
