I remember hearing a lot of noise when Hyundai first announced its whole "buy a car on Amazon" thing, but I guess it's finally a reality.

You can only buy a Hyundai so far and look to only be available in and and around certain metropolitan areas.

I played around with it last night for a few. I enjoy the concept, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed that I can't get a new car Prime delivered to my door. wink

A thought: If/when Carvana goes under, Amazon should totally buy up all the Carvana car carriers so it can deliver the cars.

Hopefully they keep doing it long enough that they start selling off the used EV delivery vans to the public laugh

Now they just need to build out a competitor to Rock Auto.  Should be easy for an establishment as well entrenched as Amazon.  The things I like about Amazon are 1) free shipping -- maybe not actually free but I don't "see" the shipping built into the price compared to their competitors 2) Searchable comments from a long history.  I find the searchable comments to be the best feature of the entire platform.  Others have tried this item and found X, Y, and Z.  Summit has something similar but I haven't found a way to search them all....maybe I just forgot...haven't been to Summit in a while.

Good point. I've ordered a few consumables through Amazon–mostly windshield wipers and cabin air filters–and haven't been disappointed yet.

Its interesting, because dealers are still involved.  So I wonder if there are negotiations, or if they are posting lower prices and trying to move them in volume?

Also, because dealers are involved, you still get to deal with E36 M3ty Hyundai dealers.

Interesting, but I wish it worked more like the car configurator at a manufacturer site. Build the car you want and it shows you the closest available nearby. For used cars, group them by option package or something and list them as 'multiple seller' and the item page kinda like multiple sellers for other items on amazon. As-is it looks like autotrader, etc. There isn't really a unique experience here.

And that's a perfect example.  I just ordered wipers for my Tundra.  They were good wipers but a "one design fits all".  To make matters worse, the instructions were blatantly incorrect.  I went back to Amazon, searched the comments for "Tundra" and sure enough somebody had posted a detailed video of how they were supposed to go on.

Yeah... I got stumped by windshield wipers.  Sorry.  I know I should be a better wrench than that  smiley

Oh, something I forgot to mention: If you buy a car through Amazon Autos between now and January 10, Amazon will apparently throw in $2300 worth of gift cards.

Now I want a well-optioned Santa Cruz...and I can surprise SWMBO with a strangely specific dollar amount of gift cards for Christmas.    She may never notice the trucklet in the driveway. cool

In reply to Coniglio Rampante :

Reading the fine print, it looks like you'll get two Amazon gift cards, together totaling $2300.

So, you could also keep one of the gift cards for yourself–even if it's a 50/50 split, a single $1150 gift card isn't bad. wink

They basically already are, IMO. I buy as many parts from Amazon as I do from RockAuto or the FLAPS or anything else these days. You have the ability to put your car in and filter by it, just like RockAuto. Though, I would also say that, just like RockAuto, they get it wrong a lot and you should triple-check your part numbers before you order. The nice thing with Amazon, though, is that not only is the shipping free, but returns generally are, too. And I can just take the item to my local Kohls or Staples to do it.

The challenge I have is Amazon has a huge counterfeit problem. Depending on what you're ordering it may or may not be an issue. If you're looking for an OEM part or name brand sensor or something... eh.

It would make for an interesting thread if we pretended for a minute that Bezos hired the contributors at GRM to design the Amazon Basics family car.  What would we come up with?

It would be a rebranded Chinese car. That's pretty much what all the basics stuff is. They focus on a name brand of whatever the cheapest chinese import stuff is. I'd bet on a importer of one of the EVs though. The BYD seagull, etc.

I did a thread a year ago suggesting Carvana might be going out of business but it looks pretty good........
