My most hated task is balancing with sticky weights, can I just switch to balance beads for on track work? Pluses/minuses?

I use them in my motorcycle. They seem to work great. Dump them in while you are mounting the tire, don't try to put them in through the stem, it doesn't work well.

If you go fast enough centrifugal force overpowers the oscillations that make loose balancing beads work. What is fast enough? I dunno, I just don't bother balancing track tires at all.

Not well in my experience.  Every time you hit a bump it messes the beads up and you get a righteous shake until it settles down again.

Imagine driving on a road with bumps every half second or so.

Imagine driving a Wrangler on 39 inch tires with a half pound of beads in each tire.

Found an article here on why they're not recommended for car tires:

They seem to work in huge motorhome tires... just saying.

What's your issue with balancing? I prefer to use the nice machine at work, but even my friend's cheap generic balancer had a bit of a learning curve to decipher the instructions but produces sufficient results without too much effort.

If you're using good quality wheels and tires you might be able to get away with just not balancing them at all. We don't balance most of our autocross tires and they drive fine at normal speeds and don't really become noticeably out of balance until around 100mph.

I run them in my motorhome tires. They work very well.

I still balance everything else the normal way.

I don't balance my track wheels and tires.  Never had an issue.

I balance my rallycross tires laugh

Retreads hop around enough as it is, life really sucks when there needs to be five or six ounces of weight that aren't there...

I figure I notice it on the road, it probably does not help maintain traction when on course.

The autocross and UHP tires I have seen have all had remarkably tight radial/axial runout as well as balance.  This shocked me because drag slicks would often need 15-20 ounces of weight to balance!

I use them in the tires on my Locost 7 with great success with RE-71R tires.  My father turned me onto them when he tried to get the tires on his ram balanced.  After three unsuccessful attempts at different shops to balance the the tires on his ram he tried balance beads and they work great.  He now uses them on the wire wheels of his Jaguar E-type as well.  I have no complaints on the Seven.  Never noticed an issue after bumps or at high speed, but the seven rarely see's anything over 85.  Race tires may be different.   On my daily drivers, I still do the normal wheel weights when I have the tires mounted at the shop.

I've seen other threads on this subject.  Few topics will get as contentious.

I suspect they work in big RV tires cuz RPM is typically looowwww. I don't think I'd give em a go on a car.
