But they are pretty darn entertaining, and by gosh fast. If you put a purpose built roadrace car out there, it would kick ass, but I think these big heavy old boats have awfully good brakes and shocks.
They used to look a bit like hippos on roller skates, but not any more.
Sonoma was awfully entertaining. Mid Ohio yesterday was really fun to watch too. A few more bumps but AJ was faaast.

Racing is racing. We know that computer driven EV's will soon beat humans but the fun is not in the absolute speed but rather the human element.
The only cup racing I will watch since about 2005 is on road courses and sometimes a 1/2 mile track. The big ovals are just a wait for the big one and it stinks.

I used to like that. Sunday's I'd watch the race start, fall asleep after the first pit stop, wake up while they're cleaning the track after the "big one" watch what happened and follow until the race was over.
My Sunday nap!
Now I'm too busy to watch NASCAR
Am I right in assuming they are the only professional series that uses a clutch pedal? Well, on track. Rally cars are still manual I think.
I am also guessing the trans are dog ears, right?
Yep only use the clutch to start moving.
Nascar is what it is. I like the road course stuff. Unforchinitly I have come to the conclusion that the commentating is now really becoming the problem. They never stop talking about useless crap. There is a "formula" that nascar has come up with and I am sure there is a teleprompter full of useless crap for them to babble on about. The contrived drama is just terrible. I really think that is what is ruining it. You have real drivers and crew chiefs commentating that could give meaningful insite and they opt for contrived drama. It actually makes it less exciting listening to them. Really sad.
I do enjoy the actual racing on track. I just turn the volume way down. I should maybe give MRN another go. Maybe the radio broadcast is better.

I don't find NASCAR commentating to be any worse than F1 commentating, and neither is as boring as sports car commentating. I like it when they dial up one of the drivers during a yellow or before a restart, and the talk about pit strategy and insights about car setup. And I like Clint Bowyer's wit. He's been a great addition to the group.
I am not saying it is all bad. I still watch a lot of NASCAR. Maybe I am nitpicking. F1 has the same problem with the new announcers. Both should let the racing do the talking and the announcers should dial it back a little. Not everything that happens needs to be described in a panicking frenzy of excitement. There is a lot of time in racing that is a bit mundane. This is part of what makes the exciting parts that much better.
Not a fan of Jeff Gordon in the booth. Mike Joy is a pro, Bowyer is amusing.
NBC soon. I like Dale and Jeff Burton better.
Crafty in F1 seems a bit too much some time, but he's just trying to be Murray Walker.
The only problem I ever had with circle track series doing road racing was the cars and/or drivers sucking at it. When the racing is good on a road course, it doesn't really matter what series it is. The extra road racing visibility, as they add more road courses to the cup schedule, is a welcome improvement.

I don't care for him at all. Way too shouty for me.
Next year the new cars will be more like GT3 cars. It will be interesting to see if that makes road racing better or worse. I like what they have right now but, you can't stop progress I guess.
I am a HUGE fan of Cup racing.
Porsche Cup anyways...
Slippy slidy goodness..............what's not to love.
I do admit the races are to long for me but I watch the last 20-30 laps.

Bigger brakes and (somehow I missed this until last week) IRS next year. Totally different aero as well. The Supra probably still will not look like an actual Supra though.

Toyota is running a Camry body in the Cup series now and with the new car.
In Xfinity they are using the Supra this year but I have not heard if they will continue that with new car. Also don't know if Xfinity will get the new car next year.

WRC have sequential transmissions (and have had them since the beginning in '98) but for the last decade-ish, the transmission has to be manually shifted with a lever instead of with air/electric/hydraulic solenoids controlled by steering wheel paddles/buttons. Basically it's the same mechanism but they have to take their hand off the wheel to shift.

Wow, a BMW in NASCAR. Never thought I'd see the day!
