HF occasionally runs coupons for them for $60 or so. I've seen people rig these up for multiple uses other than ball joints (control arm bushings, leaf spring bushings, etc) and they seems to perform well, as long as you have the space to work with them. I'd say you get your monies worth after a few uses.
Alternately you could rent it from AZ for a refundable deposit, I think 100 or 150. If/when I decide to tackle the leaf spring shackles/hangers on my Ranger, I plan on using this tool.

Two big hammers. Whack it at the same time on opposite side. It'll pop out of there like an overgrown pimple.
I have the OTC press. The only time it did not work for me is because I was doing it wrong.
If you can fit one of these kits into a space, there's enough room for a sledgehammer as well. I just had to fight with one of these things on my Sequoia. I played with it for an hour before busting out the BFH and knocking both upper ball joints out in less than 2 minutes.
