With the money you'd spend buying that monstrosity, you could have just driven the 458 everywhere and slept in a 5 star hotel every night.

Yes, but that doesn't allow to ride in comfort and luxury as you hop from track to track for HPDE's.

Am I the only one whose board formatting is broken by OP's avatar? The gif is cool but it totally jumbles the rest of my page.

Because clearly I would have my track prepped 458 shipped ahead of time and waiting at the track!

how much space do you lose inside?

probably not that much, but you do lose all your luggage and storage space that is usually down there

Locost + foldable windscreen + boltable roll bar, and you'd be right there.

Seriously.

You are starting that project soon, right?

or with the right hydralics, move the bed to the middle of the camper, put a bump under that, and install similar harware, and you could even fit a Miata under that.

Do that for challenge money.

very cool ride, if I may say so....

That RV was on Top Gear a few years ago. The interior features were just as amazing... they gave the price in Sterling, but I think it's somewhere around $2M.

I agree it's kinda silly... if you have that sort of money, you have the car shipped to the track in a NASCAR style hauler with a full support crew. Another crew arrives with a reasonably nice RV and sets up the catering for everyone and provides a comfy place for you to change and rest between sessions. You arrive-and-drive after being flown to the track in your helicopter, which flies you home (or back to your private jet at the local airport, which flies you home) after the session ends for the day.

^This. The car inside the bus is cool and all, but then you still need tools and spares which can't really fit inside the RV comfortably.

Another grassroots-ish way to do something similar would be a pickup with a slide-in camper towing an enclosed trailer with the car and tools in it.

Or just a pickup hauling a "work n' play" trailer (half "residential" trailer, half enclosed car hauler).

Actually, there are trailer campers that double as enclosed trailers.

they are interesting, but I think I'd rather do your approach- keep the car out of my bedroom.

Y'all are missin the point. This ain't for showing up at racetracks, this is for the folks that would otherwise tow a car round behind 'em and don't wanna anymore. So they just stick a basic set o 'wheels in the basement and tool around in that when the mothership is parked...

I guess... but I bet it's more likely these are bought on a whim and used maybe once or twice before the owner gets bored with it and it gets parked.

We service these sometimes at my shop and a lot of these guys LIVE in those RVs. I guess Oregon has a "transient RV" drivers license/ID so a lot of them title the RV in Oregon and have a PO box there and are able to have a drivers license through the state even though they have nothing to do with Oregon. I try to chat with them when they come in because an interesting life you have had when a 2.2 million dollar bus you retire to.

The GRM way is a Toyota P/U with a Supra Turbo swap and slide in camper. Arrive at track, slide off camper, race, relax repeat. Slide in , go home. Use airbags for the extra weight.
