I traded a non running riding mower for this non running quad with no body. I know nothing of it nor did the seller other than it it's a Chinese ATV and it ran last year and now it does not. He said he put a different carb on it and that didn't help. He thinks maybe the throttle is not working right. Battery has been relocated to the rear for unknown reasons.
Can anyone identify it??
To me it looks like a tao tao.

That engine is a Chinese Honda clone of the infamous GY6. Plenty of support out there for it. Not much power. Basically a yard kart with suspension. Could be turned into a fun kids kart.
Saw one of these a guy fit a riding mower body to. At least it looked kinda cool.

Well while I’m waiting for parts for the Saabaru I took a minute to look at the toy. It seems to be puffing OUT of the carb, so that sounds like valve issues from the interwebs. It’s getting spark.

I almost pulled the head off to have a look but he timing chain (which still looks good and in place) was kind enough to remind me that I was in for a hassle if I did that.
Looking down the intake I thought I saw valves moving
First picture shows the auto clutch wanting to do auto clutch stuff. Second picture is the starter going to the flywheel/crank. If you took that off you would find a stator behind it. Stator wires should go to a CDI box, then to the coil, and then the plug. Somewhere will be a kill switch. It either grounds to stop the CDI or it let's current flow through it depending on who they borrowed their CDI thought processes from. Whether the carb works or not, if you have compression and spark it will fire on starting fluid. Try to get it to do that before you mess with the carb.
