Yeah, no heated seated with manual in Canada either, sounds like they don't want to sell manuals.
You could add a heated seat kit but it would be a pain and not stock looking.

On one hand I agree with this.
On the other hand I really appreciate cars that have no options. With an S2000 (excluding CR), your options are: Color, and you could get sat radio I believe. Other than that they are all identical.
IIRC the FRS-BRZ are pretty similar. But I'm guessing thats because they are low production sports cars.

Yeah, two trim levels. But the differences are pretty minimal.
I liked that when I bought our '02 WRX new. Choose a color. Similar with our '15 GTI- three levels, and choose a color. My truck on the other hand.... jeebus.

Not quite 50 years... 15 or so. I believe MINI were the last of the relatively low cost, mass-market manufacturers to offer options a la cart. "Youification" was one of the selling points. But you do see some strangely optioned cars. Like my R53 JCW: Fairly base spec, but with only two "packages" - the JCW package and Cold Weather package. Then some strange a la cart options: HID headlights, chrono package (moves the center speedometer from the dash center to behind the steering wheel), and automatic wipers. And that is pretty much it. Oh - the metallic Astro Black/Silver roof was also an option.
However, for as many of those MINIs sold, apparently the profit on the cars wasn't great, so each subsequent refresh has offered fewer a la cart options and packages only. A bit of a bummer, but it is supposed to make cars more profitable.
