I like the new Jimny, but perhaps more importantly this thread has reminded me that the Pajero Jr will be legal in 1.5 years.

This is my first thought when I hear Pajero Jr.  I had a model of this back in the 80's

Rumour has it that FCA is going to introduce a Jeep that's smaller than the Renegade. If it should have a flavour like this Suzuki (it won't, but we can hope) it would get my attention. I'd like a small ,truck-like SUV instead of one of the current crop of car based cute utes.

I hope it gets the turbo 1.4 that is in my abarth. That is a great little engine

Yes i do! I also own ~20 cars so i don't consider it a good reason NOT to own a Pajero Jr...

I had to bring this thread back up. I’ve watched several overseas reviews of the Jimny and most reviewers are just beside themselves with it. I’ve seen some on road and off road reviews and they all have been fairly positive.

I watched this 30 minute video of Richard Porter (Top Gear/Grand Tour)  and Jonny Smith (Fifth Gear) just go on and on about all the things they like about the Jimny and it just make me want one more.

https://youtu.be/4KEhMLOK_0U

I really haven’t felt this obsessive over a vehicle in a while and it would be a new vehicle I would be interested in. Oh well.

There is a 100% chance that's a owner issue rather than a vehicle issue.

So I know everyone loves these things, but I rented one on vacation in the Caribbean last winter (2016 model) and yes, it was extremely capable off-road, but it was also tiny and an utter POS. I'd take a Wrangler any day!

And the same thing could be said for the Samurai when it was brand new, but people still love them.

Wranglers are now extremely overpriced and have had questionable reliability for quite a long time now.

True. He’s known for running himself off the roads or hitting cars while being high or whatever E36 M3 he is on. This will be his 8th or 9th vehicle this year alone. Previous were wrecked or wrecked until totaled, traded for drugs, stolen (probably for owing money to someone) or just gets broken. How he gets to drive with SR22 insurance is beyond me as for affordability. Besides his Daddy who is never home and works for the federal government just continues to give him what he wants.

He had a nice late model silver Mustang. Then it was a beat up blue green Honda CRV. Burgundy Mercury Mountaineer, I think? Silver Hyundai coupe of some sort. A Ford Focus that was all beat up and yellow. An newish silver Audi A4 for 2 weeks. A tan Mercedes sedan. Blue Chevrolet Malibu. A white BMW convertible that he had for a week and now the silver Suzuki swift. Granted, not all may have been his. It could have been borrowed, stolen, owned for a short time and god knows what else.

Our 2012 has been great.  We bought it new and it has 144k miles and been extremely reliable.

There are plenty of people who have had reliable Wranglers, but there are also plenty of people who have had unreliable Wranglers, especially the JK. This is why I said questionable reliability.

You’re also comparing a 3 year old rental car to a brand new vehicle that has been out only a few months and while yes, they are the same make and model, they are somewhat different. It’s a Gala Apple to Fuji Apple comparison.

Fair! I'm sure a cheap price would make up for many sins, although that Indian Jeep would probably still be cheaper. I guess I can always hope to get one as a rental in a few years if I'm lucky enough to go back to the Caribbean.

The 2019 Jimny Sierra was just introduced and I really dig the looks. It’s got a 1.5L 4-Cylinder with 100hp and 96 ft-lbs of torque. It’s also Body on Frame. Yeah, it’s pretty much an updated Samurai, but I like the Samurai. With a little more aggressive tires, this would be a fun little off-roader.

https://newatlas.com/2019-suzuki-jimny-details/55360/

Might be a supremely capable rig but not on those tires.  Oh the humanity!

Well that’s what car manufacturers do. I think the non-Rubicon Wranglers get more street oriented tires, mostly because they know people will be doing a majority of their driving in the street.

I have seen a few videos with the new Jimny doing some light off-roading and it’s not bad with those factory Bridgestone Duelers, but if mud gets involved, it’s definitely going to need more aggressive tires.

Oh?

The term orphan car accurately applies to any marque of motor vehicle built by a manufacturer that has discontinued business entirely. The term is sometimes inaccurately applied to a discontinued marque from a still-existing vehicle manufacturer (e.g. Oldsmobile) or a sub-marque (e.g. Thunderbird). In the case of a revived marque where a newer company resuscitates a discontinued brand (e.g. Maybach), only the original vehicles are accurately considered orphans

Get use to it, definitions are changing all the time. In the computer world, a "Bricked" device used to mean the only one who could fix it was the factory that made it. Now it can mean a computer owned by a luser that can't boot because they clicked the Microsoft Windows 10 downgrade button.

"Hacker" is now a person  who breaks into computer systems, when in fact Hackers built the computer systems and software that runs on them.
