I'm ice racing today at Minden ON and one turn is giving me fits. Fwd, open diff, tracrionized tires. Its a big 180 sweeper. I need to apex late, late, late. Going to concentrate on that in next race.
Any advice or encouragment, or even jeers appreciated.
Cheers, J

Have fun Jeff!
The ice racing videos that I watch online always make me want to try it.
Jeff I've been running in that series since 1996.Sitting out this yr since the rules were changed due to my car.
I'll be there next weekend running a buddies subaru in SS.I'll gladly ride along and offer any advice I can if your there.
My line with fwd in one on saturday is to diamond that sweeper(turn it into a double apex)with an early apex shallow line in and let the car run out to the middle and settle.Rotate and clip that late apex for a good line to the kink.
Car #34,car should be around the snack shack I think.Pm me for a cell # if you wanted to call me there, asking for Tom that had the bike powered geo will likely find me in short order.
I think you can see what I'm trying to do from this vid.Civic with SS tires, class and overall SS champ that yr.Excuse the hit with the crx,he blew a brake line the race before and only had e-brake so he looked it up and turned into the side of the car-looks like I drilled him though.

Walk the pits and talk to people. These folk are wicked more grass roots than any asphalt burners but more than happy to chat up their ride, the race, tactics, etc.

KC, sent you an email. Hope to talk to you next Sunday, as I'm only up that day.
Dave, I wish you would have told me sooner. I had a few brushes with the banks. Lots of snow, but I was able to finish all my races. And I don't think I was ever last. Close, but not last.
Dan, thanks for the link.
Hi Jeff, not sure where you sent the email but I haven't received it.It looks like I might be running different subarus on different days next weekend so I should be around.Post a pic of your car and race #,worst case I can find/watch for you.

Jeff, the "Bank Manager" is an informal award given to the person who manages to land their car on top of the snow bank. At least that is my understanding from following the ice racing thread on the CASC forums.
When I said that, it was kind of the "break a leg" comment that actors use. I was trying to wish you well! ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
I think they have a term for the people that drive around at the base of the snow banks looking for traction but I can't remember what that is right now.
Steer the car with the throttle. Backing off lets the rear end kick out. Positive throttle cause push.
take the corner relatively slow. Get the wheel straight as early as possible so that you can apply more throttle down the straight.
Oh, brakes do work on ice.
Called running the banks, its frowned apon when done aggressively.More like slot car racing then actual driving.
I've been lucky enough to not earn a bank manager award.![](/media/img/icons/smilies/grin-18.png)

Jeff, what were you driving?
I am looking at the pics on the CASC forum.

Hey guys up again this weekend after missing last 2. Car 35, green tercel.
Racing at Caroga Lake NY Sunday Feb.16.
www.icerace.com
Running an accent today in SS,blew most of the studs so I'll bum some tractionized blizzacks tommorow and run rubber.Black accent pitted down past the track exit, car #'s 34 and 95.
Ran rubber for the 1st time in about 7 yrs, good reminder for me why I don't run rubber nor intend to ever run rubber again.Parked the car in the infield after about 6 laps,no fun not being able to go,steer or stop.Didn't bother with the last race and went home with no more dents in the car.
This coming weekend Feb. 22-23 we will be racing at Lake George NY with their winter carnival.
There are lots of good photos recently posted on our web site : www.icerace.com
