I spotted this some months back and am finally getting the evidence up for identification. Yes, it is a Tesla Roadster, but what is that thing in it?!? This object is for real, it is not a joke. The engineering is far too "correct" to be some ghetto-fab joke. Whatever it is, it is >real<. And it is bolted in where the passenger seat was; it is not just laying in the car. Which makes me think it is a "modification," not simply something being transported in an electric car.
So what say you? My guess is prototype proximity charger. But I think that's a bad guess. ;-)

That thing is such a drag
i remember seeing pictures like these(maybe these pictures) on a different forum a few years ago. I believe it ended up being a prototype solar charger without the solar panels attached. Someone in the original thread had found another picture where the panels were bolted on.

Whatever it is, I'm pretty sure it's going to boot the car into Prepared.

That solar array almost looks like it could do bonus double duty as a windmill...

Or a new idea for a convertible top.

It is, apparently, a solar charger. That explains why one side of the pedestal is labelled "south." Sorta makes sense in Phoenix, ya know?

I just realized, he gets covered parking wherever he goes. Nice side benefit!

As a "down side" he now has a Tesla Roadster with all the handling prowess of a battleship.

Turns out your guess was correct. The charging source is about 8 min away....
Hang some plastic ponies from it and make a Tesla-go-round?

Man everyone always gets the answer before I can put in my stupid guess... I was almost %10 sure it was some kind of free wifi stealing thing...
I thought it was a prototype of a new deer whistle you see on the front of cars everywhere, only in lager scale for fine tuning before producing it smaller. As if those things work anyway.

It also seems to be obscenely ungainly for such an automobile. It has to take forever to set that array up.
