I would buy this car in a second

Hmmm, for some reason, I can't see myself paying quite this much money for an XR4Ti...but a Scorpio? In the same condition? Heck yeah.
this one is almost as nice...WAY cheaper $12k is insane

I saw a scorpio a couple of weeks ago in Berkeley I was quite surprised to see one.
I don't see how a xr4ti would be worth almost 15 large, but they have such a preposterous look you have to love them. I also am a big fan of the svo mustang with its obnoxious rear wing.
This Merkur is $10k now in Ontario. If I hadn't just bought the rally talon, I'd have bought this!

If I had $12K I probably wouldn't still have my XR4Ti. However, if I had $12K to spend on my XR4Ti, it would basically turn into a Cosworth 3dr replica complete with YB engine, quarter windows, and maybe even 4wd.

Typical dealer add on craigslist
I thought the "1" in the title of the thread must've been a misprint, but apparently not. I'm not sure there is enough of a collector market for these cars yet to support paying that much for one, even one that original, low mileage, and nice. The one mentioned that was on ebay sold for a more market-accurate (IMO) $2500 or so would seem to have more investment return potential.
BTW, for a lot less than $12k, you could have any number of very nice, highly modified, much better XRs out there. Or you could convert one to Cosworth spec fairly easily, including AWD. The parts to do so are already in the US... you just gotta know who to talk to.
You are obviously paying a HIGH premium for what is almost a new car. Think about it, $14K is about 1/2 of what a near new Mustang GT would sell for, and this car looks SOOO different from anything on the road today. I do have to say that I am surprised this particular XR4 has heated CLOTH seats, I would have thought leather would have been a mandatory option with seat heaters.
I'm not all that sure the price is too high, it's just higher than what anyone here would WANT to pay.
BTW... this one looks almost as nice, is 1/3 the price but has triple the milage (34k): http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/ctd/2615188321.html
Still seems a bit over priced IMHO... but then again, I'm no collector... yet.
I'd pay up to $10k for a properly running, non-molested ANYTHING that was a turbocharged late 80's early 90's model. With 50,000kms (30,000 miles) or less, what a bargain IMO.
That black Merkur for only $5k? That's a friekin' steal, just try and buy a car that nice for that price that you could drive.
Agreed, a $5,000 black XR or a $15k white one...the black is a steal. Incredibly, both are at Ford/Mercury dealers.
There's also a red '88 5 speed with 70k miles for $6500 at the same dealer as the black XR: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/ctd/2613937699.html
BTW, I still find those prices excessive, even for particularly clean cars. My '89 was pretty close to the same condition as the '88 listed for $6500 when I bought it, including having only 54k miles on it, and I only paid $1200 (which was typical of the going rate for a decent XR in the PNW at the time). And I and several other folks I know have been outright given XRs. So it's hard to fathom a stock XR, even as clean and low mileage as these, fetching these kinds of prices.
