The number of cars attending one race in the entire year do not show the popularity of a class. Go to any of the regional GoodGuy's autocrosses and see how many cars show up for the Pro Touring class. Then go see how many Prepared cars, total, show up for a regional SCCA autocross. Make sense now?

Possible in SSM, if your truck has a listing in SP, then I believe it can run in SSM. Dave would probably know more on this.

Because how do you monitor weight? Scales at Tech? And folks bitch enough about tech taking too long as-is. The only guys who really worry about weight are building cars to the letter of the rules for a particular class for National competition.
Threads like this always turn into an SCCA-bashing-fest... somebody dreams up a build, then whines about how there's no auto-x class for it. And then further complains they don't really care about the rules and how they just want to run and have fun. If that's the case, then just run it in E-Mod. I don't get it.

Not really. Prepared and Modified cars are basically full-on race cars. They are not "street" cars, nor are they meant to be. At the local level that will always keep the numbers low. Our region only sees one car from the time to time: the Kuglers' GP Honda, who are serious Nationals level competitors. Many of our really serious guys bring trailered cars - even couple in Stock class. I don't consider the lack of participation at the local level to be an accurate judge of class health.

It can be considered an indicator of the overall health of the sport though. If nobody shows up locally, how many are really going nationally? Just how are attendance numbers doing? These are the hard questions that nobody in the SCCA will ask, which is why so many other sanctioning bodies have popped up, and why they are doing so well (though I'm sure the rules have a lot to do with it as well).

Just build what you want and then claim it in whatever class you want it in......as long as you're cool with your competitors, not dominating, and not a douche.....I doubt anyone would attempt to protest you(it takes 3 IIRC). Lets face it, going to Lincoln with a truck in CP wouldn't happen anyways.....aside from just for fun.

Checked and noone runs any Prepared classes within the local region.
Never say never on a truck in CP.

You make it sound like I am asking you to teardown your motor with a caliper in hand and ready to measure. It's WEIGHT. Do a random spot check, draw numbers, flip coins, draw cards, etc for afterwards. If tech takes to long, you have too many berkeleying rules that tech officials are worrying about.
I'm not bashing, I am trying to find a spot for my vehicle to fit in after I already have modified it. As to the other, some people want the $2 trophy every time. Others want to have fun and not finish last EVERY TIME. It also shouldn't mean having to buy another car either.

I agree and disagree. How do you even get to the big dance? I mean is it like NHRA with grading points? Time range? It is things like this that hurts the overall as well as the local.
Im not dissing the idea......my vote is to do what you want and claim street mod street tire......technically my subframe connectors on the '91 sho put me in cp.....but no one cares(even though its generally the fastest fwd in sms)
