Glad you are OK. As we build our Challenge Lotus we are very aware of getting rid of heat quickly from the extra power, lest we become the "most spectacular failure".

This morning I realized I didn't grab the V1. Doooh. There goes four more bills.
It should be at a copart lot now.

Sorry to see another Lotus go, but I'm glad it didn't take anyone with it. You got yourself and a couple of things out, that's good enough.
Thats pretty scary. I hate car fires. I have been lucky enough not to have any personal experience, but I do carry 2 fire extinguishers with me and make sure to check the obvious maintenance items regularly. It does annoy me when people dont take care of things, then don't even bother to try to put out a fire, like the Maserati quattroporte I once saw that had an underhood fire, and someone had obviously just walked away and called the fire department when a handheld extinguisher would have easily put it out.
It's an agreed value policy. I don't think contents are covered. Guess I'll have to dig all that paperwork out.
I just noticed this thread... sorry to hear about the loss, Hess.. but I am very glad we are not reading about your loss to us.
I'd have to change my avitar. I don't think I have the skilz for that. And, as I've said before, the problem with the NSX is that no one wants an exotic with a functioning climate control system.
Now, an Elise....
Oh E36 M3 dude, I am so sorry to hear about this. I am glad you made it out safely.
I hope your next fun project comes along real soon!

You're due for a new one. The kidz don't know who Calvin is anymore.

RIP Crystal Princess (still can't believe you named it that).Jeez Doc, I've always liked you, but did you seriously refer to that car as "Crystal Princess"?! As someone who searches the ads for "Lotus" on a daily basis, I believe that we need more of these cars, not fewer, but I'm not sure how bad I feel about this one anymore...
Hmm...Crystal Princess...wait...could it be...?
Just kidding, glad you're doing well. Maybe break open one of those space bags of cash in the crawl space and pick out a new ride!
I'm very sorry to hear this, and I'm glad you're alright.
Maybe this is a nudge in the Exige direction?

Nobody owns just one Lotus - or at least, this is true of the pre-Elise crowd. I used to hang with the Eastern Canada Lotus Club in the late 90's, and everybody had at least one long-term project Lotus or three besides the one they could drive. The president of the club hadn't even had her (main) car on the road in something like five years.
Very sorry and sad to hear about the Esprit.
Think it is time to move to a Elise track pack, or Exige S
I am sorry for your loss, car fires scare the crap out of me.
Thankfully I have only had to deal with one, and it was pretty small. as in I was arguing with the wife about weather or not we were really one fire, popped the hood, quickly found out I was wrong (I should have know), attempted to blow the fire out ( as I said, it was a really small fire), upon failing to blow it out, I used a pint sized water bottle to douse it. (it was a burning rubber hose). Thus saving the car.
The worst part was hearing her endless I-told-you-so's for the rest of the trip.
