This popped up last night, I'm scheduled to look at it Thursday

https://louisville.craigslist.org/cto/5933052019.html

Got more pics, its cool as hell. Problem? Someone else is going today. If it were close I'd have tried to get there first, but 5 hours in the truck to get the call that it's sold isn't something i like doing. I fully expect the first person to get there is buying it

Eh, probably full of bondo and a really bad swap. Loads of money to be dumped into it. Right? (just trying to help)

Looks like it fits in a regular garage. (i.e. its abnormally small)

The swap is odd, and doesn't appeal to me at all. What's a straight '55 2 door wagon body worth?

Oh man a Two-Ten Handyman 2-Door Wagon. I actually think those are more rare than the Nomad.

Tri-fives aren't very big. That was part of their appeal, no?

These cars aren't as big as people remember. My 54 is similar in footprint to a 90's lumina. Guessing your old 750 is longer

On the swap being odd, i have longed to put an atlas 6 in something old.

Since it's on a Trailblazer chassis, I'd guess it is about the size of a Trailblazer.

Good luck.

Do we have anyone on the ground in Indy who can get to it faster?

I don't trust my buddy there, after all he thought buying and rebuilding my totalled rendezvous was a good idea.

The Atlas is the least offensive part of that swap to me. I can dig the updated straight 6, but the funky SUV chassis and interior parts are what I struggle with.

The car was listed on my local Craigslist with different pictures awhile ago, and the current pictures make it look much nicer than the last time I saw it. Maybe it's just a case of the original ad making a poor first impression on me. I don't mean to talk it down though. If it's what you want, then I hope it works out!

I'd be suspicious as well. A guy on the Garage Journal forum has been documenting the rust repair on a '55 two door wagon, there are a LOT of places where rust can hide on those things.

The Trailblazer chassis swap seems suspect to me as well. Just going by the funky transmission cover in the interior there may be a lot of other shortcuts that have been taken.

It's not often you find a well executed chassis swapped car, this probably isn't an exception.

I would rather have an original one, but I bet it would be more expensive if it looked that nice.

i kinda expect that, but it would be neat to check it out closely since i really do have to go to indy anyway and my trailer will be empty for the trip back.

from the pictures of under the hood that he sent me, it's interesting but nothing looks like it can't be cleaned up and made better with a little fabrication. i'm not sure exactly what the hump in the dash is for but i would bet a place for wiring and other bits because it looks like they used every bit of the donor. the engine is in front of the firewall so there would be no need for any kind of trans hump modification to the floor.

the biggest thing i see is i wonder if they stretched the 113" trailblazer wheelbase to fit the 115" original. in one of the undercar pics he sent it looks like the chassis had the welds ground where the rear section slides into the front, and was re-welded. front wheels almost look set back a little bit in the openings. if it's a true rust free body(which, 62 years later, and a CL seller, fat chance) then the body with papers is worth the asking price. however i am not looking for a project, especially not someone else's project.

Bummer. Would have been cool to learn more about it. I have recurring, irrational thoughts of an old Chevy and'55 is my favorite year. I guess the Trailblazer frame swap would have been OK. The Altas six is a cool engine.

Having owned one, the Trailblazer chassis probably drives much better than the original chassis did. Mine was a 57, it drove a lot like a truck.

It was a great conversation starter though.

I really like the trailblazer chassis. It's all tube, no open channels. Nice design up front and link suspension in rear. Big disc brakes all around. Always thought it would be a good swap chassis, almost bought a rolling frame from a tbss last year. The 9-7x had lower ride height, lsd, and bilsteins stock. In hindsight instead of taking $1800 for ours from the dealer i should have used it as a donor.

I have a handyman wagon with a fuel injected 406 and a bunch of other goodies. They are a lot of fun. 6k is an absolute steal imo if it wasn't a complete and total hacked pos.

So you'd basically have a more useable SSR with more chrome. That's not too bad a thing.
