From the article:
CAM for imports?
Good news for those who would like to run in an more rules open class like CAM but with their import based car. Raleigh has been working on a proposal to the SCCA / SEB for a street mod street tire class that would be similar to CAM but for imports. I know of a few LS swapped import cars that would love to run this class! But, this class isn’t a done deal. If you want a class like this then please send in your letters/emails to Raleigh or the SEB!
So! Raleigh Boreen the head of the CAM movement has openly stated now that he's looking for letters from people in support of an Import CAM class.
If you're interested in seeing Import CAM Happen( and are an SCCA member) Please write a letter to the SEB!

Solo events board is the committee and you can also choose to send it to CAM as well under class type
Do you have to be an SCCA member to do so?
In reply to sleepyhead the buffalo :
Yes
This could be great for Infiniti Q45 owners making Q45s suddenly worth...well, still really nothing.

something something... uninterested in hearing from people that drive imports and would consider being members, if that meant they didn't have to read 300pages of rules. Especially since the could/should be a significant amount of overlap between these builds and some of the NATAC Time Trial builds?
but, I'm just a buffalo... and we tend to lead with our horns sometimes
Since my scca membership has lapsed, can someone write a letter on my behalf? My Miata is built exactly to the cam rules, except it's considered an import. Hell, my new tires are even cam legal. And I'm adding air conditioning in a stereo to make driving it to the autocross a little more fun. Please somebody please write a letter on my behalf
Aside from a 200TW limit on tires, would this really be that much different than Street Mod, now that cross-brand engine swaps are allowed?

Not really, but it would at least give cars like mine a PAX that is more competitive. I have a 245whp supercharged Miata that is a lot of fun to autocross, but I don't want to drop $1500 on slicks and make the car unstreetable and have to go buy a truck and trailer. And I'm not the only one, because pretty much every local region I go to, the guys in Street Mod are all running 200tw tires. So, instead, I run 10th in raw time and then get banished to 40th in PAX, which gets really disheartening after a while. It also might help with new member retention. I see a lot of people who are not new to cars but new to autocross show up with a cool turbocharged or engine-swapped Honda and do decent on raw but get DFL on PAX and go "Okay, this sucks" after an event or too and never return.

Just sent my message. Got thanked for my input. Fingers crossed.
I don't "get" PAX, to be honest. I get how it works, but I don't care about it. To me it's raw times or class times and that's all I care about.
But an import CAM class would be cool. Classic Import Tuners (CIT)? Would it be RWD-only like CAM, or FWD-only like, well, most import cars? Or 2WD only, to allow more variety but keep certain rally cars from dominating?

Probably similar to how CAM is broken down currently, between Classic, Modern and 2-seaters, I would imagine we would get a FWD, RWD and AWD classes. Or FWD, 2-seater, 4-seater like Street Mod

If you take PAX at what it is, a statistical analysis turned into a comparison tool, then you can appreciate what you can do with it.
I always used it to understand where I am relative to other people in my region. It was crucial as a development tool when i got started in autox and bought the STS car from mazdeuce. But it's most effective if you have a car built to the full prep of your class and on proper tires.

That makes sense. There's a number of ways it could be sorted, I suppose.

Fair enough. I guess I haven't gotten enough events under my belt to really start looking at it in depth yet.
That's how I used to do it. "I'm 1 second behind Joe, I need to catch Joe". Didn't matter what Joe was driving.
But you don't get a trophy for beating Joe :)
Someone could send Raleigh Boreen an email with a link to this thread? That way some of the people who can't be heard because they're not SCCA members currently might be taken into consideration. I'll bet there's more than a few here who might join the SCCA because they would then have a class to run in. Look how many pro touring guys signed on over the past several years because of CAM.

My original suggestion was to take Street Mod and just change the rules to make it a 200TW class and give it a shiny new PAX. It has Street in the name, after all, so why not street tires. But....

That's because your first idea makes much more sense.
If you guys want to shoot me a direct messages I can try to compile the "letters" in an email to Raleigh and I can also compile any thoughts into a PDF that I can attach to my letter.Thats the only way I can take what you guys want to say and share with with the SEB.

Problem is, I ran afoul of the autocross old guard with that suggestion, which netted me a "berkeley you, you can pry my Hoosiers from my cold dead hands"

I don't agree, this allows a new idea the opportunity to see the light of day without waiting on changes to the current classes. Especially if import cam stays a provisional class.
People were pushing for LS swaps and other non OE block swaps in Street mod more than a decade ago. And it wasn't until just recently that those became kosher. So forgive me if people wanting to go outside the old guard is a more effective way to try something new.
SCCA is a member service organization. If there's a group of the membership not being served or a ability to bring in new members with an opportunity like this. They why would the club not pursue it?
I just find the old complaint about we have too many classes to be ridiculous.

This is how a lot of that crowd feels and I'm not inclined to fight that tide.

What kind of time frame are you looking at for sending that off? DM's submitted by Friday noon EDT?
is time of the essence? Or do we have a week? Etc.
