As many of you know, I had my knee replaced a week ago. Thanks for all the emails, texts and Facebook notes.
I guess after restoring all these cars, I needed some restoration work myself. My Doctor, Jeffery Martin MD is a car guy and drives an M5. He is the same doctor that did my shoulder a decade ago and Tom's knee and collar bone.
While I am here to tell you that this is the first time anything has kept me in bed for a week, it all seems to be going well. The physical therapy is a bit much, but I am doing it and recovering quickly.
I hope to see everyone at Daytona and other events this year. Thanks again and have a safe and healthy holiday.

Tim - I can sympathize - had my left knee done about 5 years ago. Best advice is to really work at the physio even though it can be painful as it will largely determine how mobile the joint will be in future.
The biggest limitation seems to be inability to kneel while working on cars without pain - I never really thought about how my car and gardening hobbies both relied on being able to kneel quickly and without pain! It hasn't affected driving although I worry about being able to get in and out of coupes with fairly narrow doors like my MGA coupe. Who knew I'd have been better off with a roadster long term?
Hope you have an uneventful and speedy recovery.
The same principles that apply to cars also apply to the human body. It's all about maintenance and prevention. You must take care of both to avoid future problems. After you heal up from your surgery and if you don't already, get into a light work out/stretching routine. Get into the habit and just include it in your daily schedule. Nothing crazy and you can do most of it at home. Put healthy and good stuff in your body like you would your vehicle. Oh ya and add lightness. Your joints have to carry any excess weight around. Get well soon, thanks for all the great magazine issues ( I have been subscribing since the 80s), happy holidays and see you at Daytona.

Thanks and I have been going to the gym three times a week whenever I am home.

Thumbs up for a fast recovery!
My grandfather liked to remark that getting older wasn't for the faint-hearted . . . but it beats the alternative.
Take good care -- eat lots of delicious food.
