Installed the brake upgrade on the cop car today...

I did the new brakes on the P71 today. Drilled/Slotted/Zinc coated rotors, Performance Friction CarbonMetallic Pads, and new DOT 4 fluid on all 4 corners. Stops on a dime now!

This is on top of the factory dual-piston front calipers, heavy-duty everything, and ABS. Idiot accountants used the same bracket/caliper on both rear wheels (so the caliper is on the back of the rotor next to the bumper on the driver's side and on the front of the rotor next to the rear door on the passenger's side). That means the driver's side caliper has a massive brake hose and the bias has got to be weird.

We'll see how it holds up to track days next Sunday at the HPDE. It was kind of weird covering up such shiny brakes with the steelies...

Well the steelies are going to hurt your cooling.

You need to make sure you bed the brakes in properly before really beating on them.

Heh, that is one way to cut costs, but at least they aren't inboard brakes that are mounted upside down. Dad used to work on a couple cars like that, drove him nuts when bleeding brakes. I think there was a Jag and an old Formula Ford (a Merlin) that all were that way for some reason or another.

My uncle does driving training for the Washington County police at PIR (he's also on the gang task force and races a 1st-gen RX-7 in ICSCC). Basically they chase each other around in cop cars all day long for a week at a time. I don't think he's mentioned brake problems with the cars, but then they tend to use the cars more sideways then straight ahead, heh

The steelies are cop car steelies designed by Ford to promote brake cooling. That's their marketing spin anyways...

I've been driving the P71 exclusively since I did the brakes, it should have about 250-300 miles on the brakes by the time the HPDE hits.

Uh, yeah but that isn't bedding the brakes in.

there is a procedure to follow to properly dispense brake pad material around the rotors evenly.

I've cop car steelies, they are delusional if they think they are promoting brake cooling with those.

What kind of rotors did you buy?

A couple of weeks ago I got my son a 2000 Impala 9C1.

Of course I did the break-in. This isn't my first brake job you know...

I bought some feeBay special rotors that were supposedly Power Slots and were old stock. The part # on them was a PS #, so maybe? It was cheaper then turning my old rotors though...

performance friction say their pads don't require "bedding in", or at least thats what i remember reading on the box when i worked at AZ

They have a warranty...

But I kept my OEM rotors "just in case".
