Afternoon all. I have an 04 Civic Si that is driven about 5,000 miles a year and is my only car. It obviously wouldn't be considered by Hagerty but paying for full insurance on a car that is valued at around 6 or 7k at the most and is driven so little really irks me. I'm with State Farm and pay about $925 a year. It isn't tracked, is autoxed a little but only to play with the suspension so that needn't be mentioned. It is gutted and modified.

Suggestions?

Talk to State Farm to make sure they give you a discount for a low usage vehicle? Just make sure you keep feeding them the mileage every time they ask you for it.

what is it about car insurance that confuses people?

just get the most barebones liability coverage they allow you to have in your state..

i pay like $35 a month for basic liability on my '01 GTP, but i also have the same basic minimal liability on my 86 Camaro and my 87 GMC 3/4 ton pickup, so it comes out to like $75 a month for everything once the multi car discounts and renter's insurance is thrown onto the bill.. i only got the renter's insurance because the discount on the car insurance for bundling that was more than the renter's policy premium, so they are essentially paying me to have $20k worth of insurance on all the junk i have cluttering up my house..

Skipping comprehensive or collision is reasonable, but going with minimum liability is just asking to lose all your assets and have your future wages garnished when someone sues you for something that might not even be your fault.

900 a year for full coverage is not bad. Remember fire and theft are more location dependant where as colision is more millage dependant.
