"A dynamic force to be reckoned with." That's one of the many ways Toyota is describing its new limited "Corolla Apex Edition" for the 2021 model year.
Based on the SE and XSE trims, the limited-edition Corolla can be had with a six-speed manual transmission (a CV…

Trick suspension is enough, especially if it does not bump you in autocross classes.
See R package Miata, or the Neon with the empty fog light holes, or the 1 LE Camaro or ...
Glad to see the Scion Tc/Celica getting a revive of sorts.
It's a shame only 120 of the 6000 are getting manual transmissions.
An LSD would make it even cooler.
Most will likely be sold to young 20 somethings who just want it for the looks and affordability.

It's hard to get excited about this when we might be getting the gazoo Corolla in a year or so.
So, new springs and sway bars and decent looking appearance package. Not a bad outcome.
Agreed that an LSD would really make the package though. Without added power though, it seems hard to market the special edition. The average buyer is really only going to appreciate the distinction if they happen to be lucky enough to visit a dealer that can provide back to back test drives between this and the others so the suspension tuning benefits are truly felt.
what is the weight? 3000 pounds could really dampen those 169 ponies

Curb weight for the Apex (as well as the XSE) is listed at 3,150 lbs.

A Civic Si Sedan has a curb weight of 2906 with 31 more ponies and 41 more torques and an LSD for reference.

True, but even the 'regular' civic with the 1.5T is not slow at ~15.2 1/4 mile, and the Corolla is right there with it from a roll in video below. That's an improvement from both XR-S's (caveat for the 2zz XR-S being waaaay faster once you're past 70mph) and the Scion TC of years past. Not a quick car but not that disappointing either.
