Sometimes they don't even need the 4WD.
It's funny how almost any serious car guys goes from thinking Crown Vic's are not cool to thinking that Crown Vic's are very cool.

I have jeeped there the name "slickrock" is a misnomer. It's like getting traction on 60-grit.

It's slick as in "smooth and clean", not "slippery". Loads of traction. And that trail is one with a fairly smooth surface. It's just crazy steep. If you're going to take a sedan anywhere in Moab, that's the trail to choose.
The guy driving the Cow Vic has obviously done it before. That car's been prepped and I'll bet all the locals know both him and the bull. According to the NYT article, he wasn't cited. Just warned.
