As the title mentions, in OK used full-size, crew cab 4x4 trucks hold their value insanely well.
Typically with all my car swapping the last few years, I just find one at a dealer and trade the current in, to lessen the hassle. However, for a good deal on a slightly used truck, I'd be willing to fly and drive, then come home and sell the NC Miata.
avoid the south, they hold value here real well.

Cali maybe, otherwise they're too useful to ever "Not hold their value well"

Not really--do you really need 4wd? (If you are planning on moving to CO, then I'd guess yes).
You might have better luck if you look closer to a big, politically left leaning city. But even that probably won't help.
That's kind of what I figured, but thought I'd go ahead and ask.
Thanks!
2WD is considerably cheaper out here than 4WD, so if you don't need 4x4 there might be a deal or two to be had.
Cash for clunkers and a stagnant market the previous 6 years can be blamed here heavily. My dad used to buy a 10 year old long box single cab 4wd 1/2 ton chevy pickup every 6-8 years, with a fairly local maybe month or two search. Last year he needed a replacement and had to settle for a 14 year old truck with a shortbox and extended cab, 130 miles from home, after looking for 6 months.

It's a crap shoot here. Sometimes we will have a couple of winters with no snow, then we can have snow on the ground for weeks straight.
A few years ago (Early 2011 I believe) Tulsa received something like 30" of snow in one week.
My Mazdaspeed 3 on summer tires was stuck in the street for 2+ weeks.
if you do not mind some rust repair.. PA is a good place to look. Any rust aside from surface is a failure come inspection time.
If you could find one with rotted fenders, doors, or a box, you could take it home, swap those parts with good ones, and count your savings.
Even a hole in a bumper in PA is instant failure.
Come to Detroit, the rust hasn't hit them yet. The price of lightly used GM/Ford/Chrysler vehicles is stupid cheap here since so many people work for them they just get really good deals on new ones so you find your used vehicle lots littered with these low miles loaded with options vehicles.
Here in Florida 4wd doesn't command much of a premium. The trucks still hold their value, but you'd get a better deal on a 4x4 here, than you would in say...CO.
Stay away from the coasts though--- FL is a great place to buy as long as the truck hasn't lived on the beach.

2wd pickup in late fall/winter around chicago. Guys in the trades want vans or 4wd.

No thanks. Keeping the track car alive is plenty, I don't like having to work on a DD, and especially some resto-project like that. I'll likely buy a truck in 40-60k mile range.

That's interesting, I'll have a look around online!

Or in the mud. I know you've seen the mud bog out on 100.
