If there such a thing as too much power? Steve Luca doesn't think so. The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 he’s entered in the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports is good for 1000 horsepower.

How does the Mustang make that much power? Steve only offers us …

We're still working on the finer details, but there are going to be plenty of goodies to be won besides a first-place trophy.

You can have all the power in the world... if you have enough tires.

Every time it starts, pedestrians on a sidewalk miles away shudder with fear... not knowing why.

Don't worry I'll be there even if I get last and come home empty handed.

Maybe the real prize are the racecar friends LMP360 makes along the way.

depends on the purpose.  Having recently separated myself from a 700+ hp DD I can say for daily use no thanks.  For dedicated track use, anything goes.   For me 700 hp on the street was a short path to tickets/arrest/loss of license or death.   And the latter came very close on one occasion.  Im currently working on a 400 hp semi DD which feels downright slow now but it will still probably end poorly :)

1000 should not be that hard with enough boost.  Keeping the rods inside the case, that just takes cubic money.

400hp is the sweet spot for a dd. C5 Z06, base C6, IS-F, older M3s...all right around 400hp. Perfection (for the street)

I had about that, but my car weighed 1700 lbs cheeky

Seriously, it was one reason (among many) that I sold it. Because I'm old I was able to keep my inner 16-yr old at bay, but it was a fine line that could have ended very badly. For the street, in SoCal at least, hell, 150hp would be fine, given the traffic and number of stops.
