...when your race car is now the least powerful vehicle in the fleet! Okay maybe this is one of those good bad situations. Say goodby the mazda2 and hello to the mazda6!

The rx7 now has the least power and torque out of the 3 vehicles. Its good to be back in a wagon again. (and IRS)

Here are the details:

2004 3L v6 5 speed cloth with 68,000 miles on it equipped with Bose stereo.

recent hoses/belts/plugs/filters serviced at 65k, garage kept, very few scratches, virtually no dings and ZERO rust. underbody is spotless! I'm about to get this vehicle in the air and bedliner the bottom just to keep it that way but it may already be too cold to do so...

Only 17k wagons were made this year, many in auto. I could not find a leather in stick for the life of me so I had to settle but the condition of the car was too hard to pass up.

There likely wont be a build thread, but here are the plans.

  1. ditch the 17s, run rx7 S4 t2 wheels with blizzaks (aquired)

  2. summer time run mazdaspeed3 wheels (sourced, not yet aquired) and purchase summer tires for said wheels.

  3. Window tint

  4. the stock stereo is garbage, I want bluetooth so I will have to figure this out because its HVAC and stereo unit are all tied together, this sounds expensive so I may just leave my bluetooth wireless speakers in the car instead lol.

  5. Upgraded disc brakes in summer as well, brakes are OE right now, pads got okay life left, more than enough to get through winter and spring.

  6. Keep eyes open for mazdaspeed 3 or speed6 front seats to further improve fittery.

  7. I work in lighting, you bet your ass I'm retrofitting HIDs to my low beams and change fogs to amber instead of white.

And yes I already broke it in by hauling various rx7 parts across a 300 mile journey driving it back from Chicago area.

Wow that is really cool, from one manual trans wagon owner to another welcome to the club!

Apparently manual wagons, of any sort, are rare...

Yeah you can't even get the Kia wagon in stick with cruise control, as soon as you bump it to the next tier its only auto :(

Unicorn indeed! I didn't know that any of that generation Mazda 6s were available with V6/mt combo, especially the wagons.

Speaking of Mazda 6s, I've been seeing a few of the new body style sedans around, and they are quite sharp, I wish they wohld send a few of those wagons our way.

Actually, My mom has a wagon with the BOSE system. IIRC, the panel makes it look like the stereo and HVAC are connected but they are not.

Also, Mazda makes an auxillary inout device for those that plugs into the back of the radio. I am not sure if there is someway to hook up a bluetooth device to that.

Finally, are you saying FC wheels and tires will bolt up to the car? If so, then they are backwards compatable too? If so, I may want those 17s.

Thanks,

Rob R.

Nice score! Those are rare!

I've only seen a few around here with that setup. It must be a fun cruiser, especially with V6 power.

I hate you. That is the exact car I spent months scouring the country for before settling for the MT5 Mazda5. It even has the Sports package (front bumper, side skirts, rear spoiler). Enjoy it, that's a heck of a nice car.

(And if it ever comes up stolen, it wasn't me!!! )

I've seen that drivetrain in a sedan a few times. Never a wagon though. Hold on to that one.

I know they are not connected persay but to get a normal radio in there requires a 100-150 dollar plsastic console/din piece. I will look into this input adapter though...

It has a button for tape on the stock stereo and but no tape player, you can see a plastic cover go where it would be but it lacks the physical radio, I figure you can wire in an aux in to that circuit. I haven't done my homework yet but I will soon.

The lug pattern is the same 5x114.3 and the offset is similar, and the non sport models came in 16s. I will confirm later this week when I have the tires mounted on the wheels and I'll check fitment. the 17s have about 25% tread left on some no name tires, I was just going to save them for an autox to go all sideways on if I can't get rid of them. Where are you located?

the wagons that year only came v6 and only in sport package.

Wowza, as a 6cyl hatch owner, that there is a serious unicorn. Awesome find.

Look in the bottom of the glove box. For some reason I want to say my wife's Mazda3 has the auxillary input connection in the bottom of the glove box.

My coworker in the next cube has a 6 of the same vintage. He often mentions how the dealer had a manual V6 wagon at the time when he bought his car (4 cyl auto).

Welcome to the wagon manual transmission club.

No. All wagons were V6. There was a 4 door, hatchback 4 cyl manual that is desirable.
