Just out of curiosity how much is it to maintain one of those bad boys?
A few years ago, Hemmings Muscle Machines had a article comparing the price of parts for a late 60's Vette and the same year XK. I don't recall any exact numbers and I've long since discarded the mag, but needless to say that the price of the Jag starts to climb pretty quickly if you get one that needs a lot of parts.
They seem to be one of those cars that requires an enthusiastic committment. Not something you hoon for a while then flip. When I see one on the road, I'm always amazed at how small they really are. Of course, I'm about 6'6" so there's that.
They came in open and closed top versions. XK 140 convertible with a restomod rebuild is my Win the Lottery car.
I probably should have put the XK8 or XKR. As much as I love XK120s and the lot, they aren't exactly cheap.
I read that the dealer price for an XJR transmission replacement is $15k. Those kind of cars are really meant to last at most 100k miles, then just driven into the ground and parted/scrapped. I dont think they were ever intended to be kept on the road for a long time. Same with big BMWs, Audis, etc.
I saw an XKR Silverstone a couple weeks ago, lowered with some aftermarket BBS wheels, wide as hell, with 315width tires in back.
It was UHMAZING. I want one, consequences be damned.

Then it is just time for a T56.
Does anyone know if there was a stick shift available in other parts of the world? For me that would fix the only thing I do not like about those cars, sooo sexy.

Negative. Auto only.
You should title these things better; I thought you were talking about something more like the picture below (my favorite version of the XK, the XK150 DHC);
Now that its cleared up that we're talking about newer jags, we should talk about newer jags.
They're a bit bulky by my eyes but I'd take an XJR over a lot of the old sports-machines you can get for the same money.

Based on who started this thread, I'd rather talk about pretty things that are interesting instead of boring things that won't happen anyway.
I do not know about XKRs.. but am I wrong for wanting an XJS with either a SBC or better yet, a BMW I6?

Jag didn't but Aston Martin used a T56 behind their Jag-derived V8 in the Vantage V8. That's what these guys used for their conversion: Paragon Performance XK Project The price they were talking about for a conversion kit was $7500 to $10,000 IIRC. I believe they also adapted a pedal box from an older Jaguar to work in the new car.

I had forgotten about that. Its just too bad the converson is with Aston parts. Its just sad that Jag never offered one, a Jag sports car deserves a do it yourself trans.
I narrowly talked my wife out of a beautiful 1997 XK8 convertible. Around 60k miles and super clean. Seemed to blow a little blue smoke at startup. Would take a while to restart after it had run awhile. I did some research on the Nikasil liners on the early ('96 to '00?) engines. You might want to look into that also.
