JB Weld for temporary exhaust fix?

Friend has an exhaust that needs replacing, it's broken clean in half at a weld near a resonator (man, that thing has more cats, resonators and mufflers than it has exhaust pipe!)

Lacking funds for welding or a new exhaust, she is wondering if I can fix it some other way, if only for a few weeks. I am thinking JB Weld, anyone know if this would work, or have another GRM type fix?

theres a JB like exhaust fix product, cant remember the name, but you file the crack to a wedge shape, remove any loose rust, and apply it, then heat by running the car. Ive had it last a year, and also had it last 2 days, so its kinda hit or miss, but its cheaper than a muffler shop welding job.

You might want to follow that up by wrapping the pipe with a piece of thin gauge metal that extends a few inches past the crack in each direction and securing it with a pair of hose clamps.

I've used beer cans in a pinch.

if the weld is not at the resonator... I would think that getting a piece of exhaust pipe slightly larger (I think they make them for this purpose) and slip it over both ends of the pipe and tightly clamping would be a cheap (less than $20) and more perminent fix

X2. JB weld isn't going to last more than a couple days at most if you're talking just a butt 'weld'. Most parts stores carry short pieces of exhaust pipe (bring your calipers). Then buy the exhaust clamps w/ the two nuts on either end of a U-bolt, as you can really cinch those down tight and slightly deform the outer pipe to seal against the inner pipe.

if there is room to either side get the proper sized stainless band clamp and some exhaust cement and clamp it up, it'll last longer than the rest of the car.

Been there, done that. I've tried all the exhaust/muffler glue possibilities. Get a couple exhaust clamps and a connector pipe or metal (like a beer/soda can) and clamp it. It's the only way it will last more than driving out the driveway. Should last the life of the car if done right. The U-bolt clamps are cheap. I've seen hose clamps used but they aren't designed to take the heat so they don't usually last long. Connector pipe and exhaust clamps are the best way to go and if the right size is used there is no need for exhaust cement.
