Helping a friend with an 07 (I think) commander.  He is decently mechanical and changed his spark plugs, pcv and a sensor that he said was oil temp but I'm not sure. It was on the top of the motor.

after, it wouldn't crank over.  Lights come on and there is some clicking but no crank.

Usually, no such thing as a coincidence but I couldn't find anything in the areas he worked on that would cause a no-crank.

I swapped relays and checked fuses and nothing.  I jumped the relay for the starter and it cranked over but even when we did that with the key on run and on crank it did not fire.

also tried moving the shifter around to make sure it knew it was in park or neutral but no change.

the only other possibly weird tell is that all of the gear position indicators are selected.   But I'm not sure if this is normal and it would go to just selecting park when it fires up.

Any thoughts??

So, he did some work including electrical parts (sensors) and now won't start.

Id recommend reviewing electrical connectors both those he had hands on and those he had hands near.

It's a bastardized jeep pile. If not a loose or disconnected electrical plug, it's a fried tipm.

I looked over all the areas that he worked on and there was nothing amiss that I could see.  I took his old sensor and plugged it in and grounded it but no change.

I read that the trigger wire for the starter is known to go bad but it is good (it cranked when I jumped the relay).

he has a computer that is about a year old.  I said that he should contact that company that reprograms them and tell them the symptoms and possibly send it back to them to look at it.

Is the gear selector indicator any indication of a problem?

Yeah that gear selector is almost a smoking gun considering the other things you've tried, I'm thinking most likely a fried computer sadly...

Along those lines, a bad wire or connector in the harness to the transmission
