i post up this pic of a pair of cars that have been sitting next to an unused building in my hometown for at least the last 5 years:

they look to be in good shape... but i'm guessing someone's gonna fix them up someday... or something...
i don't have a pic, but there is a car that looks like a 3000GT to my untrained eyes with the letters "GTO" on the back sitting next to a body shop on the other side of town...
Looks like a pair of Subaru SVXs to me.

The other one sounds like someone took the Mitsubishi GTO bits and added them to their 3000GT. They were called GTO's in JDM land
Them be Subaru SVX. If I recall correctly they only came with automatics in the US right? Still really neat cars though.

Yeah, there's only automatics.
And the automatic only situation is probably why they are sitting, because the auto they used was, to be kind, junk.
That is a very common car for a WRX 5 speed swap. The 6 was a little singer and the car is quirky enough to get attention.
Pick up both, do a 5 speed swap on one and tear the other apart as a parts car.
That will very quickly be the Japanese version of a Citroen DS

That must be like the pair of '69 Firebirds at a great-aunt/uncle's place. 30 years ago, they'd been sitting there for a while because their son was going to do something with them.
If they haven't been scrapped by now, I'm sure that they're just sunk down to the doorhandles in the lawn.
Anyway, staring at those cars when I was a little kid is most of why I think the '69 Firebird is the best looking car GM ever made.

good to know.. I always liked those cars
5 speed swapped NSXs are common to see for sale on NASIOC. Theres usually always at least one for sale just like with RSTIs.
The downside is the car is monstrously overweight for it's power. To compare a R32 Skyline GTS4 is like 3000lbs, a WRX from that era is like 2700lbs, a SVX is 3500lbs. All these cars have similar power.
It's been said that the engine is a EJ22 with 2 more pistons and that putting in WRX pistons, which are made in that bore due to the 22B, and turboing it i've heard a few people attempting. Don't know of anyone who finished their project and don't know all the facts behind that.
My cousin just got rid of a purple ish svx his had a ton of miles and was falling apart, when I saw it and was checking it out he was all like " guys you're age always think its cool and want to see it" I was like shut up you're only 8 years younger than me .
An on a side note it is a personal per peeve of mine when cars have wheels that are durectional and are not facing the same way.
SVXs are very cool and the interior is nice too, but I think the biggest problem is also the cool part of the car - the sheer amount of glass in the greenhouse/roof assembly added a lot of mass while the power doodads didn't help much either.
I wonder how much weight you could ditch by going manual seats and losing a few other options.
Man, gimme one o' them motors, a WRX 6 speed and a 914 then stand back: we be trippin'.
In reply to nepa03focus:
completely agree. My good friend has some turbo twists on his 944 and as good as it looks I couldn't do it on mine if I had one.
There's a complete, untouched one at a pick-and-pull nearby. Not wrecked, engine bay is super-clean. It just sits there and nobody takes anything off of it. Glass is intact and everything.
My guess is tranny go boom and someone just cut their losses. That H6 under the hood is calling to me though. Not sure for what, but one of our local rallycrossers has an H6 in his impreza and it is VERY fast....
Wonder how hard it would be to replace most of that glass with Lexan and then marvel at the scratches a year later.

D'oh beaten...yep, JDM 3000GTs are called GTOs.

Some background info from a long-time SVX owner here.
Weight is up there...so is mine
My entry-level AWD with automatic trans was 3,478 lbs when it was corner weighted and aligned. An LSi with all the options (power leather seats, stereo upgrade, sunroof) would be more. I haven't weighed my gutted, Recaro'd 5 speed swapped SVX but I do know the seats are 62# each and the 4EAT auto is 100# heavier than the 5 speed. I run in SM with SCCA and will never come close to winning an event with the stock power and 23 year old bushings but with the GC suspension set-up and R6's I have a lot of fun while autocrossing her.
