At rush hour on very busy Highway 78 of course. Oversteer, Overcorrect. CRASH! I love them all but this particular brand is nearest to my heart. So I shall not name it.

A long time ago I did a similar move. Although I had a mechanical issue.
I had an 86 GMC Sierra 1500 and leaving a red light turning left on damp roads I decided to hang the tail out. Unfortunately when I tried to catch it I ended up ripping the steering box off of the frame. Apparently that's a pretty common issue. Anyway I didn't hit anything and just ended up looping it into the grass median. Had to graft a new section of frame rail in and I added a reinforcement that somebody makes for the issue, maybe LMC trucks?
Anyway it's pretty embarrassing.

Do Mustangs even make enough power to spin the rear wheels?
A few years ago I saw a wrecked Ford GT (yes - the mid-engine supercar, not a Mustang) on I-95 right at the exit of the Rt 1 clover leaf. Given the evidence (only car with damage; to the rear; parked against the inner guard rail), it looked like a case of too much throttle before completing the exit turn combined with not enough talent, but that is pure speculation.
That said, with my limited experience driving RWD cars that actually have power, I don't know if I would be immune to a wreck like that either.
The “typical” one-car crash is one I’ve personally witnessed twice:
Arrow straight road. Guy slowly drifts to edge of his lane (fiddling with radio, looking at phone, etc.) and drops a tire. Then he panics and yanks the wheel, which causes the car to hook left, careen across the road, and smash into the guardrail on the opposite side.
In reply to Ian F :
Ian is that RT1 in Dedham mass? That road used to be like THE Place to go with a hot rod for REAL "Street Outlaws" action. I went as an obsever a few time as a young'in.

No - Langhorne or Oxford Valley in eastern PA. The 51 mile section of I-95 from DE to NY is almost an Autobahn. The posted limit is 55 MPH, but 75-80 is the typical flow of traffic if conditions allow. Getting passed by someone doing 100+ isn't uncommon. Speed traps are infrequent and generally at known locations with ample sight lines if you're paying attention. Even then, Troopers won't even look at you if you're doing under 70. Crashes are surprisingly rare, but usually pretty bad when they do occur. There isn't much of a shoulder on the inside lane in the suburban section (roughly mile 40 to 50) and if you drop a wheel into the grass the chances of recovering are slim. It's fun when it snows.
Most "racing" is by crotch-rockets from Philly during the weekend wee hours. I can hear them from my house.

I went to Georgia. I was picturing the same highway.

Could have been lift off oversteer also. Accelerates through cloverleaf, corner tightens near merge point (car also getting faster), he lifts, tank slapper ensues, rear end meets guardrail.
I am not sure if it's a design thing, or just a case of getting faster towards the end, but I have noticed that these type of freeway on ramps seem to tighten in radius as they get to the merge, which seems like a bad idea.
In reply to aircooled :
A lot of them definitely do tighten. I've run through a few at a constant speed to confirm it.

Having lived there (I'm a Yardley native) for most of my life, I'll say that I-95 in the Philly area isn't a ton different than most other highways. Hit the NE Extension of the PA Turnpike from the bottom up to the Poconos and you'll see stupid speeds. Come down here to Atlanta and drive on I-75 or I-85. In spots, the highway is 7 or 8 lanes wide and people weave in and out of all those lanes at 80-90mph plus. I usually cruise at a steady 80mph and usually can't sit in the left lane because I'll get run over.
I saw the results of an single car accident a couple of weeks ago. My street is around 1/3 of a mile long with just one street entering it near one end. Otherwise the road ends in a "T" at both ends it also only has houses on one side so there's very few cars parked on it. Locals use it as a place to see how fast they can go, usually late at night. The key here is that the south end of my street ends with a stone wall along the cross street. You have to turn either right or left or you can go right into the wall. Well someone not familiar with the area must have been booking down the street as I did hear him go by followed by a dull "thump".
I knew he hit something but not what. Going outside and looking about 200 yards south I can see the car at the end of the street with another car next to it and a number of teens running around and one girl screaming! I start to walk down but by the time I get there another car shows up and everyone gets into the two running cars and leave.
I get to the crashed car, late model Chy. 300, mashed into the wall up to about a foot of the base of the windshield. Air bags blown, shoes laying on the ground, a bit of blood, but not one person present. The police arrive and he asks me what happened and I can only tell him what I just wrote. He then says that someone called 911 and said they were taking a person to the hospital but didn't say "everyone was going! I leave it to the local cops to deal with and head home and go back to sleep. Stupid kids!
In reply to LanEvo :
A person also driving an un named car did exactly that in front of me at Road Atlanta. It was wild as I watched the airbag go off from very close range.
When I lived in Philly it felt like I-95 was the speed limit not the road. They all drove like maniacs! They taught me to speed up at yellow lights not slow down. I've almost wrecked a few times out here in the PNW because of those lunatics. Also, I never saw somebody get cussed out in the line at the grocery store until I moved there.
Does a motorcycle crash count? I saw one the other day. Motorcycle tearing through town. My understanding that the next town over tried to pull them over but they ran cops did not chase as radios are faster and they knew who it was. Anyway the road has a series of small hills except just after the third one the road makes a slight turn to the left and there is a long strait. I here the guy coming see him get air over rise number two lands hit rise number three and goes head on in to the end of a wooden fence. The pieces continue another ten yards behind the fence hitting a big tree. The whole event took less than a second. Speed was estimated at over 100 mph. Got there took a look and realized a band aid was not going to fix that. Police were there almost immediately and life flight was called but then almost immediately canceled. Such a sad wast. It happened so fast it was almost not real.
