How much do you want to spend. I do know of 74 all factory with ac always kept in a garage no rust. I have seen this car my self. He wants 4k for it.

I know of one in PA beached behind a body shop. One of the employees owns it, hasn't touched it in years. I've been told it's for sale. Probably needs some floor work having sat there for so long, but the upper part doesn't look bad. Has those black spoke Empi type wheels on it. PM me if you want contact info.
I was just at Don Garlit's drag race and classic car museum yesterday. They have a Karman Ghia with 27 miles on it.
It's brand new! Maybe you could offer him a few hundred for it?

My first car was a '66 Ghia. The guy I sold it to in Lansing MI was looking to sell it again not too long ago. I don't how close to challenge pricing you can get. But you would be looking at minimal work to make it presentable for concours and it would most likely come with lot of extras offset a lot of the cost like two engines(a rebuilt original 1300 and 1776 hot rod with Dual webbers) I think is it's only Ghia in Michigan that still has the original floor pans. PM me if you want me to you in touch with the current owner.
Most of these are California cars, but look around. Some are definately Challenge priced.

My first car was a 1964 Ghia. It was the worst piece of crap ever, and I've owned a lot of junk. That was over 20 years ago, and a little of the bitterness has been forgotten.
If I had the time and money, I almost think it would be cool to have one of these again. It would have to be rust-free, and more than 40 horsepower, though.
Good luck finding a cheap, decent donor. Maybe you should contact some of the VW junkyards/resto shops.
