I had forgotten how much fun karting was! A gang of us went to GP-NY (in Mt Kisco) yesterday for a "Spring Warmup". Only 9 HP Honda engines and an indoor track, but it was a hoot!
~Karting-View from Hemet Cam~
At about 1:00 I get into a pretty good lead-follow with one of my fellow Brit-car racers (Elva owner).
I watched some of it, kinda makes you wanna puke, camera is all over the place. Also looks like your going really slow, lol. What helmet cam were you using?
Yeah since these are rentals, I wasn't sure about sticking camera to the kart (would have been more stable). So I stuck it to my helmet.......Your head moves a lot in karting! LOL
Last time ('09) I used a GoPro camera, but it kept dying (even with new batterys). This video was taken with a Flip camera using a home-brew mount off the faceshield mounting hole and HANS stud.
Sad news is that they are cutting this indoor kart track size in half. They can't make any money with it. Half of the track area will be converted into a bowling ally!
I own an indoor kart track and have been to a LOT of other tracks, they are definitely not all created equal. We take Honda 9hp engines, put the 11 hp carb on them, custom exhaust and spin them up to 5200 rpm instead of the stock 3200 rpm-the result is 0-32 mph in 150 feet. Our motto is "It's not like racing, it IS racing". We had to do lots of tweaks to the karts to get the handling and grip levels right and we also have 3 hairpins which are dangerous but seperate good drivers from bad. The lap record is in the low 20 second range and most people can only do 23's their first time out. Here's a video taken with a GoPro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_OUygE9OrU

The 6.5hp gpny carts are so slow you can just pin the throttle, and tab the brake into hairpins etc...
To try out the 9hp ones, you need to take a $300 "class" etc...

Video of GoPro's steadinessHere is a vid using GOPRo also. I really suprised how steady the video is, although it does make it seem like I am going slower than I was.

Nice videos and nice track, LC! The GPNY track is 30 second laps (our winner out of 20+ guys was around 29.5 seconds).
My Flip helmet cam was on the side of my helmet (so I could use the existing face shield bolt and HANS stud). I think that contributed to a larger "swing radius" than a camera mounted on the top of the helmet (so more bumpy video). It was just a quick lash-up I built the night before we ran this event.
Nice videos
If any of you guys are in the area, you should come out and play at On Track Karting in Wallingford CT. It's a good time. And if you're inclined to save a buck, check out their 50% off coupons. On Track Karting Coupons This is pretty much how I afford to race there. Their 9hp karts slide around so much compared to the regular 6.5hp karts, the lap is pretty much a constant drift.
I've done that course GPNY and it was fun, but the track was just too short. My best time was on the order of 28.4. I want to go back for one of their 1hr endurance races on the super track, but it's a pretty far drive to make after work during the week for me.
Went to an indoor club here in cincinnati with the Miata club a few years ago. Track was rented out for a few hours for us. Had lots of fun but got passed twice when the yellow was out, by the same bunch of low life scumbag cheaters...I went and took my position back the second time and the girl running the event saw it and black flagged me. Why I didn't ram the guy into the next century when the green dropped is beyond me.

You can pretty much forget that. As I wrote above, half of it's being replaced by a bowling alley.
