There's a 2006 Kia Rio for sale locally......109K... only asking $850, but ad says it turns over but won't start. These have the Hyundai Alpha II engines, I believe. Would that be an interference engine, or not? Any known problems that might cause the non-start issue? I'm just wondering if I should bother to go look at it as a possible rallycross/ice race/daily hooptie candidate, I mean the price is right as long as there aren't bent valves or a dead computer.

CPS goes bad on these. I just messed with an 07 that had this problem.

It's about a $40 part that takes 2 minutes to replace.

Go check it out, bring a code reader.

Between reading any codes and doing a compression check I should be able to confirm/deny any internal damage. Maybe I'll go have a look.It would be nice if it's only a crank sensor.

Good car for the money if it's only a minor repair!

Why not hold out for a Rondo?

Be careful, big difference between crank position sensor codes and crank-cam correlation codes(ie, the belt broke).
