Last week we were in Scottsdale for the auctions, and today it was the Mecum sale in Kissimmee, Florida, just a few minutes from Orlando. Neat mix of six-figure machines plus cars from the center of our world: E36-chassis BMW M3, tons of Trans-Ams, Mustangs, air-cooled Porsches, some cool wagons and a Lada. Pics are on our Facebook page and I'll try to post some teasers below.

I'm just wondering when some auction sap is going to pay $40 K for a Pinto.

Does $210k for a Glidden Pro Stock car count? Okay, probably not what you had in mind.

I had never been to an auction until I went to Auburn last fall. I was pleasantly surprised at the types of cars that were available for $40K ,or less. I've never spent more than $17K for a car yet, but I keep threatening to splurge on something now that I'm retired and there were several C2 Corvettes that looked pretty tempting. Driver quality stuff, non-numbers matching, but still nice enough to be a fun car.

I drove one through Mecum Indy 2 years ago that was a local 66-67 coupe 427 tripower/4sp Marina Blue/Black coloring.....it was a local survivor that only brought $42k due to not having a/c, power steering, etc. It was how I would have wanted one, go fast bits in a good color and screw the rest.

The closest I get to these is the Atlantic City auction at the end of Feb. Someday I'll go to Scottsdale.

I can't imagine going to Scottsdale. I spent an entire day at Auburn and didn't see everything there was to see. Scottsdale would take me a whole week and my back would cripple me after day two. I could have spent an entire second day just browsing the flee market at Auburn.

In reply to DeadSkunk:

Mecum's Indy auction would take a solid 2-3 days to filter through everything, and even then, through the week some of the weekend cars are still arriving....

If anyone is going to be going to Indy, I'll be there wearing my green cap driving stuff again, I think this will be my 7th year in a row doing it.
