If you had $10k cash to buy a car, what would it be?

Limitations:

You must be able to find it, theoretically. If you haven't seen a for sale add in over two years it is too rare.

It should be driveable for 10K without massive amounts of work. Projects are ok, but the "I bought it for 10K and then spent 14K rebuilding it doesn't work.

I could add more of what I am looking for but I am curious what you guys come up with.

GO!

I'd want a GTO, but the prices have been going up over the last two years, so $10K probably isn't enough anymore. I'd be tempted by an SRT4 Neon but realistically the missus would snatch the money and buy herself a Windveil Blue 05-09 Mustang GT (cloth, auto). Le sigh.

I guess I just did this - I ended up with an 2004 Acura TL with a 6-speed manual.

Can you get S2Ks for $10k? If so I think I'll go with that, but their street value in the US is closer to $20k AFAIK...

In reply to GameboyRMH:

Looks like you can get a really nice S2000 easily for $12K, so 10K can be done if you are patient.

You can get them for that sort of money, but they're going to be slightly dog eared.

I miss my Z32.... so another Z32 slicktop. Engine mods, sweet suspension, wheels, and tires should bring the total to just about $10K

A pretty nice 4 door E36 M3, because they were still very pure driver's cars unburdened by six million pounds of gewgaws.
Or, a slightly ragged 350Z, maybe a hail damage special? I could find one for $10k it would just involve a road trip.

I just did mine. 1991 MR2 Turbo. Buy the best one you can for 7-8K and then 2-3K for deferred maintenance and light mods.

Unless you get really, really lucky, one that requires a CostCo-sized bottle of Aspirin.

Personally, here's my current/near-future car shopping list.

Buy it in one piece for $10k: Boxster

Build it for $10k: LS-swapped RX8

Slightly more practical: 4door e36 m3.

Way less than 10k: small truck for my fiancee.

I'd go with best aw12 turbo I could find, or e36m3 COUPE, techno violet, with a man trans of course. lol
If I could get my car in my name so I could trade it I'd be doing this for one of those, as trade-in for my car is around 10k now. lol
