Thanks for posting this. I've got a couple of coupons for a free oil change up to 5 quarts, I think I'm going to buy some of this and tell them "here, you don't even have to pay for the oil".

It's packaged from the same Nebraska Petroleum distributor (Warren distribution?) that makes MAG1 oil, synthetic stuff I get for my cars at about ~$15 for a 6-quart case wholesale. If you search it here on RAT540 blog, it's in the top 20 of over 200 brands.

I've been using ST synthetic in my turbo cars for years no problem. I'm sure the Kirkland is just fine as well.

Ipaid 14 bucks for 5 quarts the other day so I'm not worried about a buck or two difference when Costco is a ways out.

I have 2 gallons of it waiting to go into the z06. It carries dexos2 which is a pretty serious cert from gm. If you are going to do standard interval oil changes I see no reason to buy anything more expensive.

That's my feeling about oil in general. Id rather see it changed often with cheap oil then stretched with expensive oil. My .02.

I'm still running rural king synthetic oil in all my crap. $13/5qts...

Avalanche has been trouble free for 120k on this oil. Suburban same thing.

That is a smoking deal.  ~$15/jug.  That picks up a big portion of the annual dues on a couple of changes a year.

That cert is just paying gm a fee.

What's a standard interval, the factory recommendation?

Standard interval should be much shorter than the factory interval. Remember the factory wants to sell you a new one every 5 years.

One thing I learned working in the auto industry is that the oil change interval Engineering wants is shorter than the one Marketing wants so they can advertise a lower "cost of ownership" and "reduced consumption of resources".

I've been running Walmart's SuperTech for about a year or so now in the BMW and felt cheap until PF's video over it.

Haven't had any issues and knowing Warren is handling Kirland, I wouldn't be worried about using that now, either.

Does it not have to meet certain standards or will any modern oil qualify ?

Project Farm isn't perfect in this methods, but for a home DIY'er, he comes up with some pretty good tests for various products. He does tend to pad his videos out a bit, so I skip ahead some when I watch them. But I do watch them.

As for the oil, I want to say we had a thread about it a few weeks ago? When I first saw it on the shelf, I did some searching on BITOG, and the consensus is that it's the same Warren Labs stuff that's sold as a house brand by Amazon, Walmart, and others. In other words, a perfectly good synthetic oil. I bought some, it'll be going in the kids' cars.

Ok, am I the only one that doesn't think she's all that? That chick could pass for a librarian. That guy looks like any dude on the street. I think they are perfect for each other (if we are being so vain as to warrant whether someone is "out of reach" of another)

Your factory interval.

I understand that suppliers must pay for the dexos cert, but they also must meet it. Ergo GM says it's fine for my 12 year old LS that has had it's standard for synthetic motor oil superceded 2 or 3 times by now.

My point is that if you have a 15 year old Honda and Honda says change your oil every 5k miles then this will be fine all things equal.

If you are into 15k mile intervals on said Honda then there are probably better oils out there for your specific circumstance.

You'll need to log in to post.
