Kit cars

This may be a stupid question but are the laws governing kit cars and locost and the like national laws or state laws? And where the hell can I find them?

State laws. Your state DMV (or equivalent) should have them posted.

Yep, state laws. They should have a section on the requirements for home builds and kits. Some states are more friendly than others I have heard.

Awesome thanks for the link. I wish it told more about what the sheriff was looking for and also what if I built it myself, do I still need labor receipts? I email the DMV to see if they can get me the exact laws. I might hear back from them in ten years.

Look up Dhempy on the locost forum. He's from Kentucky and did what you are talking about. He seems to be good people. I would expect to receive information and good stories from him.
