Car: 2004 Ford Crown Victoria

Modifications: 5-speed manual trans. Addco sway bars front/rear.

Activities: Driving me to/from work and play. Auto-X, 6-10 a year. Track Night in America, 1 complete hope for 1-2 more

Thoughts: 235/55-17 Goodyear RS/A stock size 27.2" diameter, always smaller (26.5") worn down. I would rather not lower the car so the stock size would not fit well because I have full sets of snow tires... It is not my only vehicle, but more primary driver than project car. Tire that wont kill me in heavy rain. Heavy car capable 4500lbs'ish street trim.

Short(long)list:

Firestone Indy 500, Direzza DZ102, Yoko S-drives, Nitto NT555 (G2...?), ......

I really want to cut half a coil off and run 245/45-17 (25.7")Star Specs... But that is going over an inch smaller and I would not be sure about fitting the snows...

Wheels are 17x7.5.

Thanks Ross

In what size...? 245/45 seems small, and in that size I would have a hard time not buying the Star Specs.

Looks pretty limited in that size. Id say s drives in the stock 235/55/17 size

This Plus Cut/Weld.

I will do a thread I swear. Ill make sure to grab pics on the lift before next weekends auto-x, promise.

Track Night in America efforts... Fun spin, full 360, only two off.

245/45-17 on 17x9. Looks way too small to me...

If I didnt want to keep the steelies, GT500 bolt on, tons of rubber.

And that concludes my crazy post of the evening. Goodnight.

Look at the specs for different tires. I was surprised when my 225/50-16 Sport Comp 2s said that they had 9" of tread on a 7" wheel. You might find that 225/55-17 in the BFG is wider than a 235/55-17 of another brand.

Personally, I'd ditch the heavy steelies. There's other wheels that look better on the car anyway. And if it saves some weight and opens up more tire choices...

You had Yokohama S.drives on your list - those are my go-to street/track performance tires if I can get them, since they seem to hold up better under both conditions than anything else I've run. I've never had them on such a heavy car though, so take that with a grain of salt.

Really? I am of the opinion that the car looks worse with just about every other wheel combo. I kinda like the GT500's, and love the tire size and selection. I just cant get over the looks. kind of loud for my tastes. Maybe though, the performance gain would be there... I just like the steel wheel look I guess.

Kind of hung up between the BFG's and the S drives... Good call on checking the width. The 225 BFG's are wider than most of the 235 counterparts. I do keep looking at the Indy 500's because of all the crazy good opinions of the RE760.

I am never usually this up in the air with tires, too many good choices now with an oddball size thrown in there.

Thanks for all the input. Ross

The GT500s are a little loud, but if they weren't such a bright machined face, they'd be a lot better looking. Maybe some gunmetal plastidip would help?

18x9.5" GT500

19" Brembo track pack

19" GT

Not sure, 19" Mustang (like these)

I believe that the cars pictured are all stock height.

I was doing a little testing with the BFG SC2s last night. It's the first time I've been able to use full throttle in second gear since I put on the fuel injection. I couldn't believe that a 340 treadwear tire hooked that hard.
