I'm in a position where both tow vehicles are hurt with limited time pre challenge and a bunch of work to do on the challenge car... Thinking about trying to beg/borrow/rent a truck quick run through at Enterprise tells me I'm looking at a $1250 expense. Our car hauler, car, tools etc is close to 9500lb and going from PA to FL semi-comfy (not white knuckling it) is important. Anybody have suggestions of where else to look?

Renting anything more than a small truck is expensive. I would look into a van or box truck then try to put as much weight (tools etc) into the tow vehicle to bring the trailer weight down.

How much of that 9500 lbs could you move to the tow vehicle?

Wow, I rented a dodge 2500 from enterprise for 5 weeks while my truck was in the shop and it ran about 2400.

3/4 ton Dodge 2500 is $100 a day with 250 miles included, or $500 a week with 1250 miles included at Enterprise truck rental in Gainesville.

We rented a Penske 26 Foot truck just to be overkill. It didn't feel like there was 5000lbs behind it and we had a place to camp. I'm sure the 16 foot truck would do fine.

The trick(at the time) is to make it a 1 way rental. We picked up and dropped off at locations in the same metro area but with 1000 miles in between. Being that it was a 1 way rental, they give unlimited mileage. Cost I'm seeing in PA is 261 per day.

Check Enterprise commercial.  I rented a 3/4 ton last year 2x, and they were I think $75/day with something like 200 mi included.
