I had a 1992 custom cruiser with the 305 TBI. Great car, not the best handling/driving vehicle, but did ok. I got ~19-24mpg with it depending on how I drove. I badly wanted to Elky it, but it blew a headgasket and went on it's way down the road..

As cool as the turbobrick is...I'm torn, because I think I'd probably enjoy the chevy/oldsmobuick more.

My friend has owned eight GM B-Body wagons. (one of them was the '74 Custom Cruiser I told you about the other night).

He currently DD's a '94 LT1 Caprice Wagon, and his wife DD's a '91 Roadmonster woody with a TBI 305.

Ben's LT1 will knock down 26-27 on highway trips, but he drives like an old man. He says that driving the same way in the Buick will get him 24 or so.

The do a lot better than any V8 powered yacht has a right to. They handle better, as well.

I don't know if it's been covered yet, but you can make your own Impala SS really easily out of a 9C1 (Police Package) Caprice with the LT1. They are the same car for all intents and purposes. Find a nicer interior out of a civvy caprice, buy the impala grill and wheels and you're done.

Rear end gears I believe all the 5.7 cars got 3.08s. I know all 9C1 did. Easiest way to tell is the 5.7s all had dual exhausts. Many got a posi, but it was a self destroying GM Gov-Lok. By now its toasted. The rear end width is narrower on the 9C1 and wagon vs. the SS. Not enough to stop you from using SS wheels, though.

Both the SS and 9C1 used 440lb/in springs. The 9C1s being taller.

9C1 comuters have no speed limiter. Everything else is 108.

The small engine was the L99. Not bad, but underwhelming. They got the single pipe and an open diff..

The Optispark on the LT1 is the devil. I've never had a problem with that distributer, but others havd had tons of problems. If the car runs right, it probebly has a good one. Aside from the Opti, parts are dirt cheap.

FYI the same year Fleetwood is the same guts as the SS, just a little longer chassis.
