This is a good running and driving 78 porsche 928 time trial car. It is the V8 engine with a 5 speed transmission. New Hawk Blue Brake pads front and rear Coilover suspension 5 point race haress and seatbelt bar Fiberglass race seat Afco Aluminum radiator Quick Release steering wheel Custom mandrel bent 3" exhaust-no muffler- Sounds Beautiful!!! Lexan side and rear windows Significant weight loss- interior gutted, Insulation removed, headlights removed, etc... Weighs 2700 pounds Hankook race tires -(old and cracked) This car was built with great intetions, but we have moved on to other door to door road race cars and we need the space! This is a race car and can not be returned to street legal! Come drive it around our parking lot! $1000 or best offer!

Woah, that's cheap! ...which means it definately won't be.

They say there's nothing more expensive than a...

Get it. Basically the german version of a corvette.

Since it is a race car and not a DD you can wait for parts (the Internet is your friend).

The bad; it is a 78. It is not in demand like a late 80's s4 or gts but v8 + 5 speed rear wheel drive and rear wheel independent suspension make for a boat load of fun.

It will not be as cheep as running a miata or an old Chevy. It was the supper car of its time and it will be a bit more expensive to keep going but not crazy expensive. If you decide to get it I have a whole folder dedicated to front engine watercooled suppliers that I have accumulated over the years. With strategic shopping it is just another car.

About the only daunting task is the timing belt but again since this is a race car you can take your time,

post pics asap.

I like them but have been intimidated by the reported expense of ownership.

It's only $1000!! Couldn't you part it out for more than that if you needed to? Not that you would want to....but I am just saying.

For $1000.00 I would start scheming about an LSX engine if the OE V8 drops a deuce.

You had me at "5 speed."

Buy now, think of consequences later.

There's a Wheeler Dealer episode on the 928 which is interesting. Not that that has any bearing on this particular car.

I'll see your Scarface and raise you a Risky Business.

Besides for $1 it probably looks more like this one.

Sounds like fun if you've got the space to store it and work on it.

yes. LSX.

you seriously cannot buy main bearings for that engine anymore...well you can, but they are 500 dollars per bearing half.

That's a smokin' deal. I recently sold an '81 928 5 speed that had been sitting for over 15 years with a bad clutch, and the window down pretty much the whole time, for $850.

I saw that one earlier this week actually. Brown with brown interior, automatic. All Edd did was a full respray and brakes on all 4 corners (rebuilt calipers and new rotors, something like $3k), and swap the 80s goodness gold centered BBS wheels for a proper set of phone dials. One of the more boring episodes actually.

It is a 5 speed, that is kinda rare for the 928. for $1000 I sould take a chance.

That's just me though, it is your $1000, so you know, do what you want to do.

but I would gamble $1000 on something like that.

As Top Gear pointed out, that is the best cheap porsche. After all Clarkson did win the "personal add' challenge.

it was also the car that broke down multiple times on their short drive.

Really wide sticky tires, good detailing, and Nitrous and you have an easy top 15 car. Depending on how brave you are with the Nitrous you may be as high as top 5.

Boost or nitrous til it blows for the challenge, then LSx. Seems like a huge win to me. Wish I had 1k sitting around.

It can lap Gingerman entirely in 3rd gear. Really! I rode with an instructor in his 928 for a session, and once in 3rd he never had to shift again the entire session. It's got enough torque to pull 3rd through the slower sections, and it's geared high enough for the fast sections.

And it looks cool.

And that's where my knowledge of 928s ends.
