Maybe Monday we'll take a shot and go offer the guy 300 for that silver AW11? I'd love to buy it, but 500 for an open car with no wheels that I can't look underneath first is too risky for me. For 300, I'll roll the dice. Wanna take a ride on Monday morning?
How about just a nicely built up stock motor? Seems like it could be plenty of fun with decent suspension, tires, and a nice 22re. www.22reperformance.com
In reply to sethmeister4:
Bolt on 22re (late block) has about 140hp. Maybe 160tq. Side drafts on a 20/22r hybrid rolls about 180hp. And turbo requires piston replacement or megasquirt. And then e85, blah, blah blah. And you'll sit at 200-350 depending on mods and money. And that'll cost an easy 6k. I've added it up.
The 2rz ends up more expensive just to even MEET the hp and tq of a UZ motor and WILL cost more. I got an entire ls400 for 400$. You can't touch a 2rz around here for under 1500$. That's because yota truck guys know they can get that from them. My adapter assembly for my 1uz is 250$. The rest is nothing. Like I said, EVERYTHING total, will cost me 1200$. For 250hp and 260tq. You'll spend 6k just getting the 2rz in the Celica and turbo'd. I know this because I've added everything up for every swap, and the 1uz is the most power for the least money into this chassis. Only other cheap option is JZ, but we gos go for big money and if you think your getting a "cheap one" from Craigslist, it's because the engine has been raped by a kid. The 1uz only came in high end, automatic, granny cars, meaning no high school flunkies have flogged it.

Point of dissent: V8s suck.
Counterpoint: No they don't.

Not pictured: V8. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
IIRC it was the most powerful of the 2wd Group Bs. 1700cc four cylinder and a K27 turbo, which I think just just about everyone else with a turbo also used except for the RS200.

Of course this thread made me search CL for Celicas.

FWIW, I think sesto elemento is right about an AW11 being better suited to my current needs. I just got excited about the A60 because I found one that's practically free and I like how they look. But right now, for me, a car I don't have to restore or reengineer makes more sense. If I do, eventually start building an A60, though, you can be sure there will be a build thread. Watch this space!

Hey, I wouldn't blame anyone for choosing an aw11. They are the Miata of the eighties.
Fwiw, I'll leave this here: http://www.celica-gts.com/forums/index.php?topic=25356.0
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this the same basic platform as the MKII Supra? I would think that most of what the MKII guys are doing should work for these.
Only if it is a GTS Celica. The ST and GT were lighter because they didn't have that god forsaken lotus IRS. (Before you jump up and down, it sucks. Worst camber curve ever)
Yeah, coming from a 2x MA60 (Mk2 Supra) owner here, that IRS sucks. The real advantage of the Supra vs the Celica is that it's ridiculously easy to turbo the stock 5M-GE, or a 7M-GTE will bolt right in; IIRC the Celicas don't have enough clearance at the front of the hood to clear the same engines the Supra will.
