After driving a 2 touring today, I'm pretty sure I want one.

Touring only. Automatic only.

Only missing oil pressure and water temperature gauges, and center armrest. Are there aftermarket solutions?

What is real world mileage and maintenance like?

Is there any way to bring the steering wheel closer to the driver?

Any common failures I should be aware of?

How well do they crash?

I was shocked by the difference in driver comfort between the sport and touring. Seats were so much better. But the touring was a 14, sport a 12. Any changes in there I should be aware of?

The only changes through the model run were extremely minor, like adding USB in and Bluetooth. The stock head unit is terrible anyway so it's not worth seeking out a newer one for those features, since virtually all aftermarket ones include those and will sound better anyway. Most compact cars don't have oil press/water temp gauges any more, that can be fixed with a Scangauge, Pioneer Appradio head unit with Dashcommand, or traditional gauges plumbed like you normally would. There IS a factory armrest you can get from the dealer or online, Mazda p/n 0000-8D-P10. I've heard they are quite solid mechanically; don't think there's a steering reach adjustment hack, unfortunately.

I was this close to buying a manual Touring in that lovely green color, but the dealer couldn't make the numbers work well enough to make me happy so I bought a Fit instead. Absolutely loved the 2 though.

Skyactiv 3 is actually my second choice. Just not as comfortable seating position as the 2.

60000 miles on my 2013 5 speed sport. One of the most fun cars I've ever driven and owned. My take is that the engineers grew up in households that owned VW rabbits cause the car seriously channels the formula. It autocrosses stock extremely well. Oh yeah, and no problems AT ALL in the over two years I've owned it since new. I get about 35 mpg depending on how I drive it.

His name is Wedge because Red 2.

I love the green they put on the Mazda2. Keep in mind that the new Toyota/Scion whatever-it-is is is a Mazda2 under the badges.

Scion iA, soon to be the Toyota Yaris iA. I hope they bring the hatch version here...

The ia is too much money. So we are looking at a 2.

I've had a 2013 Sport for three years now. I've averaged just over 30mpg with 90% city driving. I haven't needed to do any repairs in that time. I had to do new rotors and pads at 16,000 miles, but that was likely due to autocrossing it a bunch. I've been autocrossing mine in STF since I bought it and it's LOTS of fun too. At stock height you can easily do an oil change without jacking the car up. Everything is wide open and easy to reach.

I have a 2012 with 75k kms on it. Only routine maintenance which I have done all myself. As mentioned above - super easy oil changes - one doesn't even need to jack up the car. Done air filter and cabin filter as well - both easy. No repairs. A little noisy on the highway (mine is a base model) but otherwise no complaints.
